Meet Tyann Marie

We recently connected with Tyann Marie and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyann, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I learned resilience by watching my mother. Growing up in a two parent home eventually transitioning into a single parent home; my mother endured and embraced a lot of challenges. I watched her acknowledge difficulties and viewed them as opportunities for growth. Every challenge that I witnessed her going through I developed problem solving skills, cultivated a positive mindset and joined support groups to guide me along my journey.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is Tyann Marie, I am a native of Memphis, Tennessee. I’m a restaurant manager and the owner of Bottle Babes Mobile Bartending Company, where I oversee daily operations and ensure our guests have a wonderful dining experience. I love creating a welcoming atmosphere and leading my team to success. Alongside my career, I am a full-time mom to two energetic kids, which keeps me on my toes! Balancing both roles has taught me valuable skills in patience and multitasking, which I apply every day at work and home. My goal right now is learning the ends and outs of the service industry to one day owning my own establishment.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Reflecting on impactful qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge, here are three that often stand out in my journey especially in a demanding role like restaurant management while balancing motherhood: Leadership and Communication Skills, Time Management and Organization, Adaptability and Problem-Solving. For those early in their journey, my advice would be to remain open to learning and seek mentorship. Surround yourself with experienced individuals who can offer guidance and support. Focus on building a strong foundation in these areas, as they will serve you well throughout your career and personal life. Remember, growth takes time, so be patient with yourself and celebrate small victories along the way.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?

I feel it’s essential to strike a balance between the two. Focus on your strengths while also being aware of areas that need improvement. For example, as a restaurant manager, I excelled in team leadership and customer service, which were my strengths. However, I recognized that my financial management skills were lacking. By taking a course in restaurant finance, I improved my budgeting and cost analysis skills, which ultimately enhanced the profitability of my establishment. Our restaurant faced a significant drop in customer traffic. While my leadership skills allowed me to rally the team and boost morale, I realized we needed a fresh marketing strategy to attract new customers. This was an area I hadn’t focused on before, so I collaborated with a marketing consultant to develop a social media campaign and community events. By combining my strengths in leadership with newly acquired marketing skills, we successfully increased our visibility and customer base. In conclusion, while it’s beneficial to hone your strengths, it’s equally important to be aware of and improve upon your weaknesses. This balanced approach can lead to personal growth and success in your career.
