We recently connected with Khara Grant and have shared our conversation below.
Khara , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Growing up, I was the biggest tomboy—a middle child with two brothers, which taught me early on to stand my ground. I was always ready to stand up for others, whether that meant confronting a bully at school picking on the so-called “weird kid” or stepping in at a fast-food line when a customer was treating the cashier poorly. I wasn’t bigger or tougher than anyone; I just had an inner confidence that God gave me to act for the “greater good.” I believed that with that purpose in mind, I couldn’t lose.
This fearlessness naturally translated into my career. In sales, I approached every goal with the same conviction—confident enough to offer solutions that genuinely helped my customers, not just the ones that would maximize commissions. When I began my own business, it meant being confident in having tough but necessary conversations with clients to ensure their success.
Dropping out of college was a leap of faith, following God’s voice telling me there was something greater for me beyond the traditional path. Since then, I’ve held roles in Fortune 100 and 500 companies that often go to candidates with advanced degrees, and I attribute that to my drive and belief in His plan.
Seriously, who wouldn’t want to work with someone who treats every day like it’s Friday at 4:59 p.m.?
Empathy and confidence are the gifts I bring to others, especially business owners who are close to giving up. I tell my story to anyone who will listen because I believe it expands my territory in His name. I worked hard, of course, but I truly believe it was God who gave me the strength to make my journey a testimony—one that lifts others up so they can inspire others in turn. That fuels my confidence and self-esteem everyday!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Thank you for the opportunity to share my journey!
I’m Khara, a digital marketing consultant, content creator and founder of *It Girl Collective*, a community where I empower women, particularly women of color, to create profitable digital products and build sustainable online businesses. My story is rooted in a passion for helping others monetize their talents and live with purpose, even if their journey deviates from the traditional path.
One of my most recent and exciting initiatives is my *Ideas to Impact Social Kit*, a comprehensive toolkit designed to help business owners effortlessly transform social media followers into loyal customers. It includes done-for-you digital products with full resell rights, empowering users to rebrand, resell, and scale their online presence to create consistent passive income.
Alongside this, I’ve launched the *Rich Niche Content Planner*, available on Amazon. This planner is tailored for content creators and entrepreneurs who want an organized, effective approach to social media. It covers everything from hashtag strategy to monthly goal tracking, making it easier than ever to keep content aligned, engaging, and impactful—ideal for optimizing reach and maintaining a consistent presence.
I’m also working on a subscription-based community on Skool, where members can access exclusive resources, engage in live discussions, and connect with a network of like-minded entrepreneurs. This community is all about fostering growth, support, and shared success.
What excites me most about this work is seeing the transformation that happens when women discover they can achieve real financial freedom using tools and skills they never considered accessible. I take pride in creating a community that doesn’t just learn digital marketing but actively applies it to build legacies.
My focus is on reaching even more women with resources that empower them to monetize their creativity and expertise. I want every woman I work with to feel equipped and confident to make money online, without fear or hesitation, regardless of their background or education.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities stand out as the most impactful: God-fearing resilience, street smarts, and an intense love of learning about people, or what some might call epistemophilia. These have not only shaped my path but have been essential in helping me connect with people from all walks of life.
First, my God-fearing resilience has been my foundation. I’ve faced setbacks and challenges, but each time, my faith gave me the strength to bounce back stronger. For anyone starting out, remember that resilience is built by pushing through tough times with faith and refusing to let setbacks define you. Embrace each failure as a stepping stone, trusting that you’re being guided to grow through each experience.
Street smarts come next. Growing up, I often found myself in situations where instincts and quick thinking weren’t just helpful—they were vital. Navigating tough, sometimes life-or-death situations taught me to be observant, resourceful, and adaptable. No matter your background, developing an intuitive sense of what’s happening around you will guide you in making sharper, more informed decisions. Sometimes, it’s those unscripted, real-world lessons that teach you the most, and these experiences can shape your confidence and ability to handle anything.
Lastly, my love for learning about people has been invaluable. It allows me to understand and connect with clients, no matter their background or goals. For those just beginning, cultivate curiosity about others. Listen actively, ask questions, and really get to know what drives people. This knowledge will help you not only build relationships but also provide better guidance, support, and value to others.
For anyone early in their journey, focus on these three qualities. They’ll help you relate to others, navigate challenges, and turn every experience into a learning opportunity that fuels your success.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was to instill a strong work ethic and the courage to carve my own path. Growing up in a Jamaican household, my dad was an entrepreneur, and my mom was a middle-school English teacher and entrepreneur as well. They both showed me, in different ways, the value of hard work, integrity, and faith.
My father had me earning my keep from an early age, assigning me tasks like cleaning, cooking, cutting grass, building fences—anything he could think of! While it may have seemed intense, those experiences shaped me. I learned discipline and resilience and gained a hands-on understanding of what it takes to run a business. My father’s fearless entrepreneurial spirit inspired me to start my own ventures young, going door-to-door in the neighborhood to offer lawn mowing or snow shoveling services—for a fee, of course.
My mom, on the other hand, instilled in me a deep faith in God, taking me to church and teaching me to trust in His guidance. Alongside her faith, she showed me the importance of kindness, genuineness, and connection. She was as passionate about teaching as she was about her own entrepreneurial ventures, and she approached each with a warm heart and a genuine desire to help others. I carry both of these qualities with me today, blending my dad’s relentless drive with my mom’s faith and caring approach in everything I do.
Ultimately, my parents gave me two invaluable gifts: the belief that I could create my own opportunities and the reminder to always keep faith, integrity, and compassion at the core of my work.
