Meet Nattawadee Ngamsom

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nattawadee Ngamsom a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Nattawadee, so great to have you with us today. There are so many topics we want to ask you about, but perhaps the one we can start with is burnout. How have you overcome or avoided burnout?

It’s hard to get productive these days since we all are having a repetitive loop, the same routine every day. So, the easiest way to avoid burnout, I tried adding some new excitement by setting short- and long-term goals, something measurable enough that I can enjoy the process of reaching them. Together with traveling to new places, it doesn’t even have to be just traveling, you could also just go to a new café, having new places to enjoy your morning coffee, exploring the new neighborhoods, doesn’t it sound fun already?

Also, prioritizing self-care can play a significant role on preventing or recovering from burnout. I love spending time on my own, going out for a walk, listening to my favorite songs on repeat, having a nice meal, cuddling with cats, all of these simple things could bring the most happiness and could make you feel like life is worth the living again.

It’s completely normal to feel unmotivated or uninspired at times. Just try not to be too hard on yourself and allow yourself time to rest if you need to.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m originally from Bangkok, Thailand, I was working as an Affiliate Program Manager for years after I graduated. I was always having everything planned in advance, barely stepped out from my comfort zone as I was scared of change. A few years later, I visited New York, met my mom’s best friend. She asked if I wanted to come help her with the restaurant business, I said YES without hesitation. Later on, I got back to Bangkok, resigned from my stable job, moved to New York with no planned.

I got to do stuffs I never thought I’d be doing in my entire life. I went to train as a waitress at the restaurant for months, meeting a lot of interesting people, having a new group of friends. It felt so nice at first. Half a year past, home-sick starting to kick in, I was crying every night missing all of my friends, family, my office job. While I was struggling already, my family gave me a call, mentioning that my dad just passed away. I felt like the world starting to collapse, I lost my dad and my boyfriend at the time decided to left me. I quit everything for months, taking things pretty easy and slow, while trying to build myself up.

After 2 months of what happened, I finally got myself back, starting to do an online content, posting stuffs on my Instagram, got so many opportunities along the way. I feel lucky, and so thankful for all the people who has been supporting me the whole time, especially my Bangkok besties and myself, for always being so understanding and never rushed myself to be fine. I always remember to be kind to myself, it’s what I deserve the most.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Based on my own experiences, I’d say personal development, adaptability and optimist. Learn from the difficulties and see every challenge as an opportunity to enlarge your abilities.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Self-love, from what happened earlier, I learned to love myself more, taking care both of my physical and emotional on my own, stop relying on someone else. It’s nice having people supporting you throughout the journey but it would be nicer if you could be self-reliance.
