We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Danielle Parkinson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Danielle, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
From an early age, my purpose seemed to find me through a love for reading and storytelling. I devoured all kinds of literature—fiction, non-fiction, newspapers, encyclopedias, comics—you name it. I even remember reading out loud to impress the adults in my family, and writing stories that delighted my teachers. Although my end-of-term reports often read, “She’s a great student but too talkative,” my energy for storytelling and connection continued to grow.
In high school, I naturally gravitated towards media and storytelling roles, joining clubs like the A/V Club, Debate and Literary Society, and even the editorial team for the school magazine. These roles fit seamlessly with my interests and confirmed my desire for a career in media, broadcasting, and advertising. Over time, from being a talkative child to hosting a morning radio show, I realized that following my talents and embracing new opportunities led me toward a career I was truly passionate about.
Now, as I embark on a new chapter as a Certified Chief Well-being Officer (CWO), my purpose has evolved to focus on merging my media expertise with corporate well-being. This unique blend has enabled me to create a consultancy that not only meets the needs of businesses but also redefines how companies can approach workplace well-being and happiness. Crafting meaningful narratives, building brands, and helping people tap into their fullest potential has become my way of inspiring transformation.
Finding my purpose has always been about leaning into what brings me to life—creative projects that build connections, inspire change and empower both people and companies to grow from bland to brilliant.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m Danielle Parkinson, also known as DJ Dani—an award-winning, multi-hyphenate, multi-media professional with over two decades of experience in advertising, PR, journalism, and broadcasting. I’m a morning radio host, and I also work as a digital content manager, strategist, writer, content creator, and producer.
My goal is to create captivating, life-changing content across broadcasts, workshops, digital media, and traditional platforms—content that educates, inspires, transforms, and excites audiences on a wide range of topics. I’m passionate about using storytelling as a powerful catalyst for engagement, transformation, and self-actualization.
With a background in positive leadership, well-being, and happiness studies through the United Nations University for Peace and the World Happiness Academy USA, I’m proud to serve as a storyteller, radio personality, and certified Chief Mental and Physical Well-being Officer (CWO). My commitment to national development shines through in my work, particularly by investing in the mental health and well-being of youth.
In 2025, I’m thrilled to introduce the Kindness Club to schools across Trinidad and Tobago, bringing a fresh approach to fostering empathy, respect, and positive interactions among students. The Kindness Club is designed to create supportive school environments where students are encouraged to embrace kindness, celebrate diversity, and build strong, respectful relationships with their peers – actively combatting bullying and school violence. Through interactive activities, guided discussions, and practical exercises, the program aims to empower young people to be kind leaders within their communities. With the Kindness Club, we’re working towards a generation that values empathy and compassion, creating a ripple effect of positivity and kindness.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are my positive attitude, adaptability, and passion for storytelling.
1. Positive Attitude:
A positive attitude has been invaluable in helping me stay motivated, connect with others, and see the best in every situation especially reframing failures as lessons learned. For those early in their journey, nurturing positivity will make challenges easier to face and help you build stronger, more meaningful relationships. Practice gratitude, stay focused on your goals, and seek out opportunities to uplift others.
2. Adaptability:
The media and well-being landscapes are constantly evolving, and being adaptable has allowed me to stay relevant and open to new opportunities. For those just starting, it’s crucial to stay curious and open-minded. Don’t be afraid to learn new skills or pivot when necessary. This flexibility will help you thrive in a rapidly changing world.
3. Storytelling:
Storytelling has been my bridge to connect with people, inspire change, and convey complex ideas in relatable ways. For anyone beginning their journey, I recommend finding ways to strengthen your storytelling ability—whether through writing, speaking, or other forms of communication. Practice sharing your ideas in a way that resonates with others, and always aim to make an impact with your words.
By nurturing these qualities, you’ll be well-equipped to navigate your path with purpose and connect meaningfully with those around you.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m definitely open to partnerships and collaborations, especially with individuals and organizations that are passionate about promoting well-being, workplace happiness, and positive change in communities.
I’m particularly interested in working with corporate leaders, wellness professionals, educators, and community advocates who share a commitment to creating environments where people can thrive.
I’m also actively looking for collaborators to help roll out the Kindness Club! I’d love to partner with influencers, content creators, creatives, positive role models, and, of course, sponsors and investors who are passionate about making a difference. My vision is for the Kindness Club to be a collaborative effort that resonates with and genuinely connects with the kids we aim to impact positively.
