We recently connected with Jasmine Norris and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Jasmine with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic certainly comes from my parents. My dad worked a full time job while I was growing up and my mom started her own festival business. My mom would work on the business during the week and then on the weekend, my dad and I would help her run it. Seeing how hard my parents worked and how they hustled and pivoted when things didn’t work out as planned has helped me do the same with my business. It was instilled on me at a young age that you have to put in the work to make sure that you receive the outcome that you were expecting. Things don’t always come easy and what you get in return will always be equivalent to what you put into the business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I own and run Jasmine Norris Photography and am an award winning and published wedding photographer. I am based in Indiana but I photograph weddings worldwide.
For over a decade, Jasmine Norris Photography has been proving wedding couples with romantic and joyful images that they will love and treasure for generations all while helping them have a stress free wedding photography experience. Averaging around twenty-five wedding couples each year, Jasmine Norris Photography is able to consistently meet deadlines while providing an amazing client experience and accumulating five star reviews from all of my couples.
I’m a photographer for the romantic and joyful couples who want their wedding day to be authentic. I also understand how stressful planning a wedding can be and to alleviate that stress, I arm my couples with lots of help and guidance from family formals to wedding day timelines to posing and a lot more. I strive to make sure the experience is as fun and as stress free as possible.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three skill and areas of knowledge that are the most impactful in my business journey are: marketing, education, and knowing my ideal client.
Marketing is extremely important to be able to reach new clients. I was lucky enough to have a marketing background with my college education so this helped me a lot when I first started my business. Marketing evolves so frequently though so I really have to make sure I’m evolving my marketing efforts so that I am relevant and reaching clients each year.
Education is two fold- making sure I’m constantly learning and improving my craft and making sure I’m educating my clients and answering all their questions. There is always something that you can learn and improve and I regularly attend conferences and take classes to make sure I’m improving and keeping my business up to date. I also want to make sure I’m proactively educating my clients and answering questions they may have before they even ask. This helps make me seem like an expert in my field and helps them have an stress-free experience.
Lastly, knowing who your ideal client is is super important! If you don’t really know who your ideal clients are, you can’t effectively market towards them. You need to know exactly who they are and how you can attract them.
If you are just starting out on your journey, my advice is to write down exactly who your ideal client is and then you can start crafting your marketing messages to appeal specifically to them.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
I think that it’s certainly important to play up your strengths! These are things you excel in and that can help differentiate you from the crowd. You can be an expert in your strengths and that’s powerful! However, I think that it is also important to work on improving areas that you may not be as strong in. You can still lean in on your strengths but improving other areas will help you excel. When I attend a conference, the classes and speakers I go to and listen to are ones that excel in an area that I need to improve. It doesn’t make sense for me to listen to a speaker who I may love who excels in the same thing as me. I want to listen to speakers and attend classes that are geared towards something I need to improve. This helps me improve my skillset so I can help my clients and my business even more.
