Meet Berrin Tunçel

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Berrin Tunçel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Berrin below.

Hi Berrin, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

Thank you for your kind words Nadia. I think the generosity comes from by genes or maybe by the destiny I had in the earlier phases of life. I had a little brother when I was a little child. He was 13 months younger than me. Since I had a working mother. I was responsible to take care of him. He was like a little son to me. During the day time, we were either locked inside home by my mother or left outside in the streets. I was protecting my little brother from the bad boys of the neighborhood. I always loved him & tried to protect him throughout my life. But unfortunately, I lost him when he was at the age of 55. I miss him so much..My grief for him always stays with me wherever I go. Besides that I got married at an early age and gave birth to my daughter when I was 18.5..I grew up with her. I have been always fond of her. I gave all my energy for her to raise her as an honest & loving person for this world. And she taught me a lot too. To sum up my generosity comes from my being a motherly elder sister and also from being a mother at a very young age. And from my big heart..I want to embrace all humanity..I wish I were a mother to all who needs one..I love all the humanity of this earth where we should be living in peace.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I have been a Professional Artist since the age of 17. My gift for the art of drawing was discovered at my little age by my mother who was a teacher. I had the chance of having lots of paper&pencils to feed my passion of drawing at the school where she was working When I used to be alone, when I couldn’t have my paper & drawing pencils, I used to draw big heads on the walls of our house. then after a few. years naturally my first exhibition came out when I was only 6. I always wanted to be a famous Artist since I had ever known myself. When I got married and had my child, I got some full time jobs as a banker, officer at communication department of ministry of transport, manager of a commercial company..but my ambition of being an artist for a life time did not leave me..One day, suddenly I quit my full time job and started painting intensely and had my second art exhibition which took the attention of media of my country..By the time the small press news became big and loudy , attracting a wide range of audience. but then they turned out to be also too false & fake and paparazzi type news which wouldn’t prioritise & appreciate my artistic personality & qualifications. Therefore , I. continued to build up my art career in Europe, having art exhibitions in Paris, Madrid and I also moved to US and lived there for.some years..I had a co-exhibition with one of the Oldest women Artists Gallery in New York and became a member of another multi-national art gallery in Soho, NY. Hence.I had to return to my country because of.my family.. Afterwards I was closed into myself dealing my private issues, but I always kept up my art profession Now I a
have art projects again abroad..But life has taught me to keep quiet until it’s been realised.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Be hard working: If you want to be successful in the field you have chosen with your own will. You should be working for it very hard. Achieving your goals in that field must be your first priority of your entire life. In my case, I had hard times in my life economically and emotionally but I never give up from what I am entitled to do. Sometimes to be able to offer for more art supplies, I gave up spending money on my favorite French parfumes, lipsticks , I made my chose from more canvases, brushes, paints..It was not easy but I had a goal in my art journey.

Be persistent: Definitely be persistent. Do not care what the critics say or write about you. Keep up the work that you know that what you are working worths. Be deaf to the ones who try to mislead you in your journey. Do not chase anyone who succeeded before in your field.
They would not be willing to help you. Be a leader yourself. Claim your leadership from your own self esteemed existence and get it…get it now !

Be brave: you have to be brave to follow your ambitions .you have to be brave to express yourself & to continue your journey in life. Only if you are brave, you can make it. Ignore all, only listen to yourself and your instincts. Have no fears.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

I think I will have more decades because I am taking care of myself very much and of course I owe it also to my Assistant & Daughter who is my right hand. For the rest of my life, I want to keep my life as it is which is full of love & peace. Certainly I want to be recognised & known by all people especially young people around the world as much as possible.. Because the upcoming generations have right to know whom Artist Berrin Tunçel is and how much her endurance was solid in a tough geography.
