Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bree Alvarado. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Bree, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by using everyday experiences as my biggest creative outlet. I find inspiration in my daily interactions, whether it’s observing how people connect or exploring new ideas in unexpected places. Running my candle business allows me to channel these moments into creating unique scents and designs that resonate with people’s experiences. By staying open to what’s around me, I find new perspectives and ideas that help fuel my creativity.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I run Bee’s Wax Candle Co., a where every candle is carefully curated – from hand pouring each one to hand-placing the wicks and labels. My goal is to create more than just a candle; I want each scent to bring a sense of comfort and joy to people’s lives. One of my favorite parts is choosing unique scents that can transport you, like our popular Cozy Cashmere, which wraps you in a warm, soothing aroma.
What I find most exciting about what I do is the chance to share the art of candle-making with others in a truly personal way. It’s such a rewarding experience to turn raw ingredients into something that can add warmth and ambiance to a home, and I’m beyond grateful to be able to share that with my customers.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were creativity, resilience, and a strong focus on branding.
Creativity has been essential, allowing me to experiment with unique scent combinations and make my brand stand out. It’s not just about the product but also how the whole experience resonates with customers – each candle is an invitation to connect on a deeper level. For anyone starting out, I’d suggest spending time brainstorming what makes your brand unique and how you want people to feel when they experience it.
Resilience has kept me going through the challenges of starting a business. Not every idea works out, and sometimes there’s a learning curve with new skills or market changes. My advice is to stay open to learning, especially when things get tough, and see each obstacle as a growth opportunity. Resilience builds with time, so take setbacks in stride and focus on the progress you’re making.
Finally, focusing on branding has been instrumental. Building a brand that reflects your vision and connects with your audience sets you apart in a competitive market. Think about the values you want your brand to communicate, and make them part of everything you do – from product design to marketing. For those just starting, invest time in defining your brand’s personality and consistently infuse it into all aspects of your business.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Absolutely! Coming from a spa background, I would love to collaborate with more spas, both near and far. Whether it’s creating exclusive scents for their services or incorporating my candles into their spaces, I believe there’s so much potential for beautiful partnerships. If you’re interested in collaborating, feel free to send me a message on Instagram at @beeswaxcandle.co. Let’s create something special together!
