We were lucky to catch up with Romy Mestan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Romy, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Resilience by definition is the ability to withstand adversity and bounce back from difficult life events. Being resilient does not mean you never experience stress, emotional trauma or suffering. Resilience involves the ability to work through emotional pain and suffering. I suppose I have developed resilient character traits due only to hardships, just like a diamonds scintillation or “sparkle” is acquired by using lasers to scrape away their dull, rough outer surface and create and polish angled facets that allow them to shine brighter!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
By trade and to the world I am a serial Founder/Entrepreneur. To myself I am an artist who finds great passion in the creative process of products and businesses and monetary goals will always come second. I founded Romy’s Juice Spa which is also known as “Art In A Cup” or “A Spa For Your Gut”. I also founded Romy’s Cleaning Service over 15 years ago. The purpose of both of these companies is to assist with a cleaner environment for better mental health and to assist with gut health where 70% of dis-ease in your body originates. We are hoping to make a impact on the world by making it a “cleaner” place!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Having very successful hard working women in my family including my grandmother, mom and sister helped set the tone for the success I have experienced today. That being said I truly don’t believe anyone could ever get to where they want by themselves and I have a lot of people to thank for everything from emotional support all the way to actual hands on development. I am sure other people can relate when I say I have cried at my desk, I have not wanted to get up in the morning, I have not known my next moves…..it is all part of the process. The difference is the 1% club as it was formerly known as WE DON’T QUIT! You have to have a goal in mind as to what you are working towards because most days will not be easy on the way up and that is the hard truth! Take care of your employees. Make your vision board. Practice Self Care. But remember, only do these things if they actually resonate otherwise your business will be based on a very unstable unauthentic foundation. The world is beautiful because we are all so different so use that to your advantage but also utilize other people and their valuable skillsets.
What is your biggest challenge right now?
I think the biggest challenge currently for every small business and human is the economy of course. I have noticed the frugal behavior multiplying these past few years then ever in my 20 plus years of entrepreneurship. As a business owner it obviously affects several things but I feel it forces you to be more creative in marketing and also you take care of the clients you do have better because you don’t know when another one is coming. A definite hurdle has been trying to get people educated about their health before a diagnosis occurs. We would rather prevent dis-ease then treat if at all possible. As the owner of Romy’s Juice Spa it seems to be a very unique business in trying to get people to understand that one ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! Once we can get people to understand this concept I think we really can change the world and accomplish our mission.
