We were lucky to catch up with Faseeha Raza PA-C recently and have shared our conversation below.
Faseeha, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I knew I wanted to make a difference with my talent and skills. Although, like many moms, I spent several years raising children and growing my family while holding off on my career. I waited for all 4 children to be in school before I could start my professional journey. I watched as my friends graduated and started working years before me. I thought to myself that everything happens for a reason, and I needed to be patient. Waiting for the right time builds resilience and determination.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Today I am a Physician Associate, a CEO, and the Chair of a non-profit organization. Chic Derm & Aesthetics is the company that I have founded. A local medical practice that specializes in dermatology and cosmetic treatments.
At my practice we take pride in providing the best patient care with safety as our top priority. Our goal is to provide innovative non-invasive cosmetic treatments that give natural results, elevating the confidence of our patients.
My skin care advice as a dermatology PA is always to start with building a good base. In other words, focusing on skin tightening by building type-1 collagen with procedures like microneedling. While also utilizing superficial laser resurfacing for polishing the skin and getting rid of any texture and uneven tone issues. I call these treatments an investment in your skin’s health. Once we establish that, we add in procedures like Botox or dermal fillers to accentuate the natural beauty. Neurotoxin injectables help to prevent fine lines and wrinkles and provide patients with a smooth appearance. Dermal filler allows me to put the “cherry on top” and finish the treatment plan by restoring lost volume in areas such as the lips or cheeks.
I give back to the community by allowing Physician Associate students to shadow the work I do in my practice. This gives them a chance to shadow dermatology services, and take a look at what it’s like to be a cosmetic injector. After years of my own education, specialized training, and first hand experience it feels rewarding to be able to inspire others while providing an educational experience.
I look forward to growing my practice with location expansions in the near future. This would allow me to continue offering innovative treatments with high quality care, and provide even more education opportunities to my community.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In my opinion, how you approach a consultation as a medical provider can affect the outcome of the treatment. I have learned the art of consultation with time, and I believe this makes a huge impact in the patient experience. This requires educating the patient and setting proper expectations. I see this as a vital skill for those on their journey towards a medical profession to work on. At the basic level this comes down to communication skills. However, it also involves ethics and psychology plays a role as well.
My involvement as a volunteer of two organizations Society of Dermatology PAs and The Dermatology PA Foundation (DPAF) has significantly shaped my professional career. Working alongside intelligent and committed PA leaders exposed me to strategic planning and organizational strategies. When you become a part of a leadership team you unlock a whole new spectrum of knowledge. I gained experience as a committee member, as a vice chair, and as secretary treasurer. Recently, I became the Chair of DPAF, a national organization that provides educational resources to PAs and dermatology care to underserved communities. I highly encourage becoming involved in volunteer work through passionate organizations, as it opens the door to a wealth of experiences and opportunities.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I have several professional mentors to name who helped me grow as a person but my husband has been the first person who believed in my talents and gave me all the support I needed to be successful.
