We were lucky to catch up with Zibi Katza recently and have shared our conversation below.
Zibi, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience is deeply rooted in the unwavering power of nature. Observing the intricate dance of life in the natural world has instilled within me a profound sense of strength and the ability to persevere through life’s inevitable challenges. The trees, with their roots firmly planted in the earth, stand tall and resilient, weathering storms and seasons. They embody the essence of endurance, adapting to changing conditions and emerging stronger each year. Similarly, animals navigate their environments with remarkable resilience, overcoming obstacles and finding sustenance, even in the harshest conditions. Nature also teaches me about the importance of adaptability and flexibility. Just as a river changes its course to navigate obstacles, I have learned to embrace change and find new paths when faced with unexpected challenges. The cyclical nature of seasons reminds me that even the darkest times will eventually give way to renewed growth and hope. In the quiet moments spent immersed in nature, I find solace and inspiration.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Zibi Katza, the Americanized version of my Polish name, Zbyszek or Zbigniew. I completed a program in Building Engineering and hold a Master’s degree in Engineering with a focus on Safety. I started as a handyman in 2004 for my family and friends and quickly gained a reputation as the go-to Renovation Contractor in Poland, Europe. Over the years, the demand for my services grew, leading to a growing number of happy clients and beautiful homes. A significant challenge and recent success was my end-to-end ownership of a brick house build and remodel in Poland from 2020 to 2022. In 2023, my family and I made a significant move from our beloved Poland to our new home in beautiful Colorado, USA. I believe overcoming challenges makes life beautiful. Relocating to a new continent, country, and language presented a challenge that led to the establishment of Green Oak LLC, bringing European renovation quality to American homes. I treat my clients’ homes and properties as my own. To uphold the highest industry standards, I have pursued a General Contractor license to build residential houses.
As a fourth-generation beekeeper, my weekends are buzzing with activity. While beekeeping in Poland differs from Colorado, I’m expanding my knowledge of local beekeeping practices to keep my bees happy and honey delicious.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Here are 3 things that have been most impactful in my journey:
A Systems Perspective: Understanding the interconnectedness of all things has been invaluable. By viewing the world as a complex system, I’ve gained a holistic perspective that allows me to identify patterns, anticipate consequences, and make informed decisions. This systemic thinking has been particularly useful in navigating challenges and opportunities in both personal and professional life.
Empathy and Adaptability: Working in diverse environments has honed my ability to understand and connect with people from different backgrounds. By developing empathy and adaptability, I’ve been able to build strong relationships and resolve different conflicts. This skillset has been essential in fostering innovation, creativity, and resilience.
Work-Life Balance: Prioritizing personal well-being and professional success has been a constant balancing act. By cultivating mindfulness and self-awareness, I’ve learned to set boundaries, manage stress, and maintain a healthy work-life balance. This has enabled me to sustain productivity, creativity, and overall satisfaction in my endeavors.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I’ve frequently changed career paths throughout my life, which has cultivated resilience and stress-resistance. My wife has been instrumental in this journey, constantly encouraging me to embrace new challenges and adventures. Traveling the world with her has inspired me to develop new skills, grow personally, and overcome obstacles. As social creatures, we all thrive with support and encouragement from others. It’s wonderful to have the support of family and loved ones. I’m grateful for my wife’s unwavering support.
