Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Yuwei Li. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Yuwei, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Staying creative is a very simple and difficult thing to do. I think the main thing is to stay curious and keep everything fresh. Other than that, browsing for information, reading more, talking to friends, and traveling are all good ways for me to stay creative. Also, different kinds of good artwork often gives me a lot of inspiration to create even better work.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am currently a freelance artist whose main mediums are oils and acrylics. I create my own work in my studio, which is something I really enjoy. My main subjects are Tibet and urban life. I am fascinated by the culture of Tibet, and the city is a rich source of inspiration for my compositions. During the process of creation, I may encounter situations where my inspiration runs out and my work stagnates, but I will find ways to get through these situations as soon as possible. Of course I also do some magazine and book design. All in all, I love my job.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
For me, I think the three most important aspects are persistence, striving to better yourself and staying curious. First of all persistence is the most important, no matter what you do, persistence is the hardest thing to do, but it is also the only way to achieve ultimate success. At the same time, always keep learning and trying to improve your ability will better serve your career development. Lastly, keeping curiosity about everything will allow one to keep discovering fresh points that will inspire more potential and energy.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
I think the biggest challenge now is to keep creating new work. Most of my works depict Tibetan life subjects and urban scenes, but I have also been trying to use Chinese ink to express Western characters and life. I have been constantly experimenting with new ways of expression and hope to make a bigger breakthrough in my work.
