Meet Steven Golden

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Steven Golden. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Steven below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Steven with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

My work ethic come from my family. Though there wasn’t much my father, mother and grandfather and others worked tirelessly. I used to find things to do to make money as a child. I would take out my neighbors trash for 50 cents, and help her with groceries. By the age of 14 I had a part time job at The Car Wash Company in Mckinney Texas. And as soon as I could work full-time, I did. Working was able to provide me with a life that I believe I deserved. And my work ethic is reflective of the life I want. Working hard everyday makes that possible…

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a husband, father, and brother. I am a businessman that has fallen in love with moving and the process of transportation. Golden Rule Relocations has become the baby of my heart as it has been pivotal in the fostering of business relationships for the sake of purpose. We are beginning a second phase of complimentary business with the addition of ” The Attic. A Once in a Lifetime Find, Every Time. Your Renew and Restore Store.” It is Resale/Consignment Store. It easily fits with Golden Rule Relocations because we receive donations and the like on our moves and item removals. Logically it is a way to give back to the less fortunate and make a positive contribution to the community. So far it works well, as far as the business model and we hope to see Golden Rule enter the next phase of business with an upward boost.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Moral-Character. Customer Service. Work Ethic.

Moral-Character. The first and most important quality is Moral-Character. It develops the foundation upon which the business is built on. Having a strong moral compass for business ensures that you won’t be swayed by the changing tides of society but remain true to your core vision business.

Customer Service: As a waiter I sharpened the skills to be able to “Read the Play”, and Anticipate Needs, This transcends to the customer in moving when you watch the flow of the move and pivot accordingly. This level of customer service ensure repeat customers based on the nurturing aspect of the relationship in business.

Work Ethic. Fostered from Childhood a hard work ethic has been able to bring me through some of the hardest jobs I have even been on, That work ethic has brought me through the 3am moves where things went long. It’s been able to push me through the supply runs and late night loads and unloads at storage. And a hard work ethic has been able to push me through and become a way of life, not just for the business but in every other aspect of my life too.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

The Holy Bible.

I am a man of faith. Without the wisdom & knowledge of the bible, I would not be able to produce the faith needed to do some of the things I do on my moves and/or deliveries. Furthermore, I consider it my instruction manual from God. The goal in life is to live by it to the fullest. When I practice the principles of the bible things go better. Not perfectly, but enough to know that God is in control and “this” has meaning.

“In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7:12 NIV).

This is “The Golden Rule”. This principle scripture is the foundation for which our company is built. We live by it. We serve by it.
