We were lucky to catch up with Alecia Savage recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Alecia with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic was instilled in me early by my father. He was a hard worker. My father taught me to work for the things I wanted in life. And that people don’t mind helping you when they see you trying to help yourself. My father taught me the importance of being responsible.
My mother taught me how to use my creativity to start a business and be consistent in my work. Both my father and mother have contributed to my work ethic.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I own a salon suite in Las Vegas and I create educational hair content on social media.
My salon suite is different than most because I specialize in Blowouts and I offer haircuts. During my entrepreneurial journey I have learned a lot from trial and error. Most valuable lesson was learning to start off by specializing in one hair service and become a master at it. Clients want to book with experts not a generalists.
The best part about being a hair stylist is getting to see how happy and confident my clients are when I reveal their new hair style to them.
Creating content has been a lot of fun and rewarding. I love that I am able to create educational hair content that can help other hair stylists. When I first graduated cosmetology school Instagram video was fairly new so there wasn’t a ton of hair tutorials out like there is now. Being able to contribute to my industry in a positive way is very rewarding. I’m always working to develop my content creation skills to make sure I deliver the best content for my community.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that have helped me on my journey are being patient, being coachable, and being a good active listener.
In this age of everything being on social media a lot of people think success happens over night. Success in whatever you want to achieve takes time. Always take time to celebrate your small daily wins that help lead up to your big success.
I am big on personal development and continuing education. I am always sharpening my knowledge with classes, conferences and coaching. To improve in any area of your life and business you must be coachable, be able to take constructive criticism and willing to follow instructions when given by the coach.
Being a active listener has helped me stay engaged when learning new things, helps me implement new information faster and helps me deliver the best results for my clients.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Reading my Bible has been the most impactful in my life and business. The Bible has many life lessons you can learn from. My favorite book of the Bible is Proverbs, gives you so much knowledge and wisdom on life issues, money, and discipline.
Proverbs chapter 31 describes qualities of a virtuous woman and goes into detail about how she invests her money, treats her family and has a business. There is so much more in the book of Proverbs that can help anyone in their personal and business development.
