Meet Talyn Rahman-figueroa

We were lucky to catch up with Talyn Rahman-figueroa recently and have shared our conversation below.

Talyn, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

People like me don’t usually go into diplomacy. As a second-generation British Asian, I had dreams of representing my country, but the reality was that the room was often filled with people who were all “male and pale.” When I shifted to entrepreneurship, working directly with diplomats and politicians, I knew I needed a different strategy to break into those elite circles. That’s where the power of my personal brand came in. Instead of focusing on myself, I made it about them—I created messages that resonated with their needs and ambitions. Everyone loves to feel seen and heard, so I gave them the space to talk while I worked behind the scenes to refine their personal brand. By making them the center of attention, I was invited into rooms where someone like me would typically be kept outside. My approach wasn’t about fitting in but more about showing that I could add real value by focusing on their story, not mine.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My journey started with feeling invisible—like I was always present but never really seen. As a diplomat, I hoped to make an impact, but I quickly realized I was just another voice in the room. The real turning point came when a British Ambassador, who was my mentor, encouraged me to start my own consultancy. He saw potential in me that I hadn’t recognized yet. It became clear that building my personal brand was my key to breaking into elite circles, not through titles but by offering genuine value and insights.

Now, I help solopreneurs who feel lost or overlooked develop powerful personal brands that truly stand out. I know what it’s like to feel invisible, and I want to help others be seen and valued in their industries. That’s why I’m excited about the launch of my Personal Brand Mastercourse—it’s everything I’ve learned and refined over the years, packed into a step-by-step program. It’s the same knowledge and formulas I use with my high-profile clients, now accessible to anyone ready to build a brand with purpose and impact.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three qualities have been most impactful on my journey: self-awareness, consistency, and investing in expert guidance.

1. Self-awareness: This is the foundation of everything. The ability to look inward, evaluate your strengths and weaknesses, and adapt your strategies accordingly is invaluable. It means being brutally honest with yourself about what’s working and what isn’t. This internal audit process is how I’ve been able to pivot effectively, adjust my approach, and continuously grow. For those early in their journey, I recommend taking the time to reflect regularly on your goals and performance. It’s not about beating yourself up but about understanding where you need to focus your energy for improvement.

2. Consistency: Building a personal brand or business is a marathon, not a sprint. Success often comes down to showing up every single day, even when it feels like you’re making no progress. It can feel like you’re stuck in the mud at times, but every small effort adds up over time. The key is to keep pushing forward, knowing that those small, consistent actions are moving the needle, even if you don’t see immediate results. My advice? Commit to your vision, set small daily goals, and trust the process. The compounding effect of consistent effort is powerful.

3. Investing in experts: One of the best decisions I’ve made was to work with mentors and experts, even when it felt like a significant financial stretch. Hiring experts provided me with invaluable shortcuts to success, saving me from the trial-and-error process that can stall many entrepreneurs. Rather than trying to figure everything out on your own, leverage the knowledge of those who have already achieved what you’re striving for. It might feel expensive at the start, but the time and energy saved, along with the accelerated growth, make it one of the best investments you can make in your business.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I’m excited to share that I’m currently looking for small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs to join me on The Fairy BOSSmother Show. This is an opportunity for individuals who are serious about leveling up their brand. On the show, I’ll be doing live brand sessions where I give constructive, no-nonsense feedback designed to help you make real progress. It’s not for the faint-hearted—I’m looking for people who are ready to put their egos aside, take a hard look at their current approach, and practice some serious self-audit. If you’re ready for honest advice and willing to make changes, I’d love to have you on. You can reach out to me directly to be considered for an upcoming episode!
