We recently connected with Jamie Laskie and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Imposter syndrome is something I’ve navigated since starting in mortgages at 19. Being young in the industry, I was surrounded by seasoned professionals, which made me question if I truly fit in. Over time, I learned that I didn’t need to be perfect; I just needed to strive to be 1% better each day and embrace my imperfections. Knowing I’m loved and supported has been grounding.
I’m lucky to have an incredible team around me, including my mentor Sharon Campbell, who has over 40 years of wisdom, and my mom, Sheryl Laskie, who works by my side. I lean on them and other amazing professionals whenever I feel stuck, and their encouragement keeps me moving forward. I also remind myself why I’m here: to help people advocate for themselves. My belief is that no matter where you come from, you can accomplish amazing things if you put yourself out there with confidence.
I celebrate my achievements through gratitude journaling and sharing on social media, and I reward myself for meeting goals. My confidence has grown thanks to friends who believe in me, leaning into discomfort, and attending Noco Boss Babe meetings, which remind me of the power of community.
Each day, I focus on what I can give to my clients, knowing that it’s not about being perfect but about genuinely supporting others. That’s what makes me proud to be in this field
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a mortgage loan officer with over six years of experience, and I’m passionate about helping first-time homebuyers and those who might feel overwhelmed by the process. One of the things that excites me most is being able to educate my clients and empower them to make confident decisions. In my work, I focus on creating an approachable and supportive experience, where clients feel comfortable asking questions and truly understanding each step.
Beyond mortgages, I’m deeply involved in my community. I run a women’s networking group called Noco Boss Babes, where we host meetups, support local businesses, and create a space for genuine connection. My mission is not just about helping people buy homes but building a network where people feel uplifted, supported, and inspired to pursue their goals.
Currently, I’m expanding my focus to include credit education and budgeting resources, which I offer through workshops in my area. I also plan to launch a new series of client stories on social media to celebrate my clients’ journeys and show others that buying a home is achievable with the right guidance.
Overall, my goal is to be more than just a mortgage expert; I want to be a trusted resource, a community builder, and an advocate for financial empowerment. Whether it’s through loans, local events, or online content, I’m committed to making a positive impact on people’s lives
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most impactful qualities in my journey have been empathy and active listening, continuous learning and adaptability, and building a strong support network.
Empathy and active listening are essential in the mortgage industry. Understanding a client’s unique needs allows me to tailor my approach and build trust. For those early in their journey, I recommend prioritizing empathy by practicing it in every client interaction. Put yourself in their shoes, ask open-ended questions, and listen without rushing to respond. This strengthens relationships and leads to better solutions for clients.
Continuous learning and adaptability are also crucial. Mortgages and finance evolve rapidly, so staying informed keeps me on the cutting edge and builds confidence in my knowledge. My advice is to always stay curious—take courses, seek mentors, and engage with new developments in your field. Adaptability is key in a constantly changing environment.
Finally, building a strong support network has been invaluable. Having mentors, supportive colleagues, and friends to turn to for advice or encouragement makes all the difference when facing challenges. One of the ways I cultivate this support network is through Noco Boss Babes, a women’s networking group I run. It’s a space for local women to come together, support one another, and grow both personally and professionally. For newcomers, I suggest actively building connections, joining networking groups like Noco Boss Babes, or finding mentors who align with your values. A strong support network can provide perspective, feedback, and motivation that propel you forward.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was show, through their actions, what hard work and resilience truly mean. My dad is a first-generation college graduate, and my mom didn’t finish college, yet they both put in extraordinary effort to create the best life they could for our family. They started out in trailer homes in southeast Texas, with my mom working two jobs—one at a federal prison—to help put my dad through college. Meanwhile, my dad worked as a natural gas welder to support his engineering studies, which eventually led us to Colorado.
Seeing their journey firsthand taught me the value of hard work and the importance of supporting those around you. My parents didn’t just encourage me to believe in myself; they showed me that success is built step-by-step, often with the help and sacrifices of others. That’s why I’m so passionate about creating opportunities for others to grow and succeed, just as my parents did. I want to help people find their way up, whether that’s through mentorship, education, or simply offering encouragement when they need it most. Their legacy of resilience and support drives me to make a difference in the lives of others, helping them reach their own goals with the same determination my parents instilled in me.
