We recently connected with Dr. Dale Laing-hall and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Dale, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism is deeply rooted in my journey from the vibrant island of Roatán, Honduras—my place of birth rich with culture, resilience, and warmth. Growing up in Roatán taught me early on that strength and hope can flourish, even in the face of challenges. I witnessed people around me enduring hardships with grace and finding joy in small victories, no matter the circumstances. This became the bedrock of my perspective on life: that hope and perseverance aren’t just ideas but ways of living that bring light to every challenge.
As I moved through life, from working in Burger King in North Miami Beach, to answering phones in a nursing home in Hialeah, FL, to becoming a Chief HR Officer and consultant, I carried with me an enduring faith in people—the belief that anyone, no matter their background or struggles, has the capacity for growth and connection. This belief has fueled my work and my optimism, particularly in spaces where I bridge gaps, offering others a sense of belonging and understanding that I’ve hard-won through my own experiences.
Emotional intelligence has been the framework through which I’ve nurtured this optimism. It has guided me to look beyond immediate reactions, to feel empathy for others’ journeys, and to seek solutions even in the face of adversity. With each hurdle, I learned to pause, reflect, and ask: “What can I learn from this, What areas can I improve in? and how can I help others do the same?”
In every room I enter, I bring this blend of optimism, EQ, and the deep understanding that, like the island of Roatán itself, resilience can be beautiful and transformative. I embody a hope that is grounded, a hope that not only dreams of better but actively works to create it. And that optimism, deeply connected to my roots, is a gift I pass on to everyone I encounter.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
What excites me most about my passionate purpose is seeing the transformative power of emotional intelligence(EQ) unfold in real time. Witnessing leaders, professionals and employees connect on a deeper level, fostering genuine empathy and understanding, and ultimately creating environments that prioritize both productivity and well-being is incredibly rewarding. Emotional intelligence isn’t just a skill; it’s a catalyst for personal and professional growth that empowers people to lead with purpose and resilience.
Currently, I’m expanding my services through Dale Reports, where I offer HR consulting, EQ courses, and leadership training tailored to the unique needs of each client. I also recently launched my podcast, “A Glimpse of Growth”, where I share insights on emotional intelligence, personal development, and the journey of building stronger workplaces and home spaces.
My goal is to continue creating spaces for professionals to grow, learn, and find a sense of belonging, all while enhancing their emotional intelligence skills. I’m deeply passionate about my purpose and grateful for the opportunity to make a lasting, positive impact on the world around me. As a result of my lasting impact, earlier this year 2024, I self-published my very first book called “Dale Reports: Emotions & YOU” – serves as a mini guide to understanding and harnessing emotional intelligence (EQ) in everyday life. Drawing on my personal lived experiences, this book has insights and practical strategies designed to help readers recognize, manage, and apply EQ principles in personal and professional contexts. And more recently I collaborated with 24 beautiful women from all across the globe and co-authored a book called “Women Living Fearlessly” each sharing heartfelt stories, my chapter called “Significantly Seen: Empowering Self & Others” explores the transformative power of stepping into our true selves and embracing visibility. I welcome you to give these books a view and maybe even a purchase, if they speak to you.
In early 2025, I am thrilled to launch my latest courses designed exclusively for healthcare leaders who face challenges in retaining top talent, navigating team communication breakdowns, overcoming employee resistance to change, managing feelings of overwhelm, and fostering trust within their teams. These courses will provide practical strategies and tools to empower leaders to create resilient, cohesive, and high-performing teams with minimal effort and start seeing results as early as 30 days, so be on the lookout for them.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are resilience, emotional intelligence, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Each of these has shaped not only my career but also my approach to life and my ability to connect with others meaningfully.
Resilience: This quality has been a guiding light, especially when navigating unfamiliar spaces or facing challenges as the only one in the room who looked like me. Resilience is about staying grounded and finding strength in difficult moments. For those early in their journey, I recommend embracing setbacks as learning opportunities. Every obstacle is a stepping stone that can prepare you for something greater. Surround yourself with a strong support system, whether mentors, friends, or like-minded professionals, who encourage you to keep pushing forward.
Emotional Intelligence: Emotional intelligence has been essential for me in building relationships, handling conflict, and leading with empathy. It’s a skill that goes beyond the workplace; it influences every interaction, helping you understand and connect with others on a deeper level. For those starting out, begin by working on self-awareness. Take time to reflect on your own emotions and responses in various situations. Practicing empathy, listening actively, and seeking to understand before reacting are also foundational steps to developing strong emotional intelligence.
Commitment to Lifelong Learning: I’ve always been passionate about learning—whether in formal settings or through life’s many experiences. This commitment has allowed me to adapt, grow, and stay relevant in my field. For those beginning their careers, I encourage adopting a mindset that values continuous growth. Invest in learning, both within your area of expertise and beyond it. Read widely, seek out mentors, attend workshops, and stay curious. Embrace the fact that you’ll never know everything; each experience will expand your perspective and skills.
Above all else, get closer to you and hone your self-awareness, focus on developing these qualities by taking small, intentional steps every day. With resilience, emotional intelligence, and a love for learning, you’ll be well-equipped to handle whatever comes your way and create an impactful, fulfilling career that makes you love the life you live and live the life you love.
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is healthcare leader who is deeply committed to their role but overwhelmed by the complexities of managing employees, fostering a positive work environment, and balancing their personal and professional lives. They value growth, their open to new perspectives, and are genuinely committed to creating a positive impact within their organization and beyond. They’re typically professionals, leaders, first time managers or business owners who recognize that emotional intelligence is a crucial element in building resilient, high-performing teams and cultures. They want to feel more in control of their workplace, they want to see their employees thriving and engaged and they want to feel connected to the reason that drew them their position to begin with. They fear that burnout will force them to leave a job they care deeply about. That they’ll fail to create a positive impact on their team and residents or customers, that constant turnover will hurt the quality of care and their organization’s reputation. They want to make a positive impact. They come to me ready to make meaningful changes, knowing that it will not happen overnight, understanding that this journey requires self-reflection, courage, and a willingness to embrace both successes and setbacks.
As a result of working with me, my clients have experienced a profound transformation in their self-awareness, their workplace morale begins to soar, enhancing their communication skills, and leadership abilities. They leave with greater confidence in their ability to lead with empathy, connect with others on a deeper level, and build trusting, collaborative relationships. I’m seeking professionals who are ready to break free from the patterns that hold them back—difficulty empathizing with others, difficulty influencing others, and difficulty trusting others. These are the leaders and teams ready to evolve and unlock their fullest potential. Who do you know?
