Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicole Burbank. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nicole, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I think there’s a common misconception that resilient people are just born this way, but I believe resilience is actually a skill set that anyone can build over time. When I work with clients, I teach them to develop resilience like a ‘resilient soup’—a blend of essential ingredients that, together, create the strength to face life’s challenges.
The ingredients I focus on include self-confidence, consistency, determination, a sense of purpose, a strong ‘why,’ and a clear understanding of who you are. I also think adaptability, mindfulness, a solid support system, accountability, and gratitude all add layers to that foundation. But one of the biggest mistakes people make is that they don’t have a plan or take the time to build each skill set. Writing it out and getting super clear on each of these qualities illuminates your path and gives you a roadmap for resilience.
For example, self-confidence grows through small wins and taking on challenges. Consistency comes from daily habits that support well-being and build a sense of control. Determination is rooted in understanding your purpose, and your ‘why’ becomes the fuel for persistence during tough times. Adaptability and mindfulness teach us to stay calm and flexible when life takes unexpected turns, while gratitude and a support system give us a positive outlook and sense of connection, reminding us that resilience isn’t built alone.
When you consciously build each of these qualities and create a clear plan, resilience becomes a mindset that allows you to thrive, no matter what life throws your way. You’re not just bouncing back—you’re moving forward with purpose and strength.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My mission is to help people see that anything and everything is possible—that they can create the reality they dream of and that it’s within reach. I’m passionate about empowering people to become their best version, and I truly believe that transformation is available to anyone willing to take the journey. I pinch myself every day that this is my reality—that my career allows me to help others win at life. My hope is to always be an expander for others, inspiring them to lean in, take action, and fully step into their potential.
My background is rooted in functional medicine, where I gained a deep understanding of how the body’s systems work together to create balance and health. From there, I specialized in nutrition, exploring how our dietary choices shape both physical and mental wellness. This journey led me to create Nicole M Burbank, a brand focused on whole-body wellness—integrating nutrition, emotional health, and mental resilience. I believe that true health goes beyond food and exercise; it’s about nurturing our emotional well-being and building the mental strength to handle life’s challenges.
What excites me most is helping people realize that wellness isn’t about following a rigid plan; it’s about building a lifestyle that supports their dreams, creating a mindset resilient enough to weather challenges, and establishing routines that align with who they want to become. My work is designed to meet people where they are and guide them in crafting a life they’re excited about—one where they feel grounded, strong, and truly capable of anything.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I’d say the three qualities or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey were self-awareness, resilience in facing fears, and building a strong, authentic relationship with myself.
Self-awareness has been foundational. We often see the world through a lens shaped by our past experiences, which can distort our understanding of situations and ourselves. Learning to recognize and shift that lens—asking ourselves what’s true for us versus what’s been projected onto us by society or others—is so powerful. Many people think they know who they are, but often, it’s who they think they should be. Developing true self-awareness requires asking the hard questions and discovering what’s authentic to you.
If I could do it all over again, I’d lean into my fears more. In the beginning, I was so afraid of rejection or being hurt. But now I know that on the other side of fear lies the things you truly want. Our brains are wired to keep us safe, so they create stories to make the unknown seem scarier than it is. But once you face that fear, you realize it’s rarely as bad as you imagined. I encourage anyone early in their journey to see fear not as a barrier but as a signal that you’re on the path to growth.
Lastly, my advice is to be patient with yourself and make it a priority to know who you are at your core. It’s a journey, but as you become more aligned with your true self, your path will naturally become clearer. Remember, even if you don’t always feel like you’re growing or making progress, you are.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents definitely had their hands full with me—I’m stubborn, fiercely independent, curious, and always challenging the status quo. But one thing they always did, which I’m incredibly grateful for, was give me the space to be exactly who I needed to be. They allowed me to learn, to make mistakes, and to grow without judgment, just with unconditional support. That gift has probably been the most impactful thing in my life. It’s given me the freedom to be okay with both failing and succeeding, knowing I always had their unwavering support, no matter what. I’m not perfect, and I’ve made my share of questionable choices, but knowing they’d always be there with open arms has truly shaped who I am today.
