Meet Shirkydra Roberts

We recently connected with Shirkydra Roberts and have shared our conversation below.

Shirkydra , so great to have you on the platform and excited to have you share your wisdom with our community today. Communication skills often play a powerful role in our ability to be effective and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your communication skills.
I learned that our way of thinking comes from our own set of beliefs that have been created overtime through our lifespan. We uniquely combine religion, culture, experiences, knowledge, and wisdom when we build tools that assist us with communication. I experienced trauma at a young age which caused me to gain my own set of beliefs about myself, others, and the life around me. Effective communication stems from having skills in empathy, cohesion, open-mindedness, and selflessness. I learned that if we are humble enough to step out of our own shoes to see out of the eyes of others, we can communicate in a way that is effective and often received. When we are able to explain ourselves to others, we open the door for others to explain themselves to us. If you want to know why a person thinks, acts, and responds the way that they do, learn who they are and how they got to where they are.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
As a motivational speaker that specializes in the mental health space, I am currently working with schools, colleges, and small business on how to create a safe space that allows mental wealth to be established. Once we find our own voice, we can assist others with finding theirs. When we stabling our voices as a team, we are able to expand ideas, solutions, thoughts, and processes that lead to success. The goal is attack the mental barriers that keep the best of people silent!

I am also currently speaking on my newest project called I2I (Influence 2 Impact). This project is a 4 step strategy of how to go from being influenced to becoming an impact through our own stories. I am constantly asked the million dollar question “How did I find my purpose”. More often than not, the answer is usually found within our pain, challenges, mistakes, and shortcomings. I developed a simple strategy of how we can heal from our past so that we can use our healed wounds to create an impact around the world. It is one thing to be influenced in the moment by a story, it takes a little bit more to create an impact through our story. We all have a gift, we just have to unwrap it even when that wrapping paper is pain, hurt, or trauma. .

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three best skills and qualities that help me daily on my journey to being an impact are:

The Ability to Forgive: We all need forgiveness just as much as others need it form us. If we learn that we are all subject to making mistakes, we will be able to move through life with a level of grace that allows us to stop carrying around the burden of perfection.

The Ability to Empathize: There is no greater way to see out of the eyes of others for greater understanding if we are not able to step outside of our own story.

Resiliency: If we would step outside of our current situation to see all of the obstacles and challenges that we have overcome, we wont let the things of today take us out! Our past is our resource to strength and courage

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, I want to connect with other like minded individuals in the mental health space that are looking to train, equip, and develop the skills within the work and school environment. If you are looking to create or collaborate on future projects, I would love to hear from you. My website is www.sriame.com or email me directly at [email protected]
