Meet Ariana D’souza

We were lucky to catch up with Ariana D’souza recently and have shared our conversation below.

Ariana, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

I think my optimism is the reason why I’ve achieved what I’ve wanted. My parents always told me that I could do things and that a lot of things were possible from a young age and with that thought being said that if I wanted the things to be possible I would have to work for it. It’s interesting because these values that my parents have implemented in my life have been engraved into my work ethic and my outlook on life today. Now that I’m in my twenties, I like to surround myself with people who have that positive outlook in their lives as well. People who understand the reality of life but are still able to remain smiling through all of it.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I started off as a dancer and later began pursuing Acting more professionally. In the past 20 years of my life, I have worked in film, commercials and stage and I am always looking to further push myself to improve my craft as well as learn more about myself and the industry that surrounds me. In the recent I have starred and supported in a variety of features, shorts, stage productions, music videos and commercials. I am hoping to start working on making music sometime in the future. I am so incredibly grateful to have projects that are set to be released within the next 6 months and I am excited to share them with the world.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Without these three qualities, I would not be where I am today. Communication, Ambition and Discipline are the three qualities that have been the most impactful in my journey as an artist. Being an actor is all about people and the ability to communicate and connect with other actors. It is a fundamental part of being an artist. This is not a career in which you can go into alone. I’m so grateful to have spent time meeting other artists just like me, it always serves as a reminder that we are not alone in this industry. Ambition has also been the core of my journey, it is ambition that fuels me, it is the consistent nature of wanting to do more and more. I’ve always been ambitious, I’ve always dreamed big and here I am, living the dream that I’ve always wanted my entire life, being out here in Hollywood. Finally, I would have to say discipline. This is something that I speak about a lot and I thank the people in my life who have shown me that good discipline pays off. The ability to make sacrifices and commit to what you started. It’s difficult but certainly not impossible. From one artist to another, the greatest advice I can provide to other artists who are early in their journey would be to set goals for yourself. Goals in my opinion are just ‘to-do lists,’ but they sound a little fancier. Treat your goals like checking off your grocery list, take baby steps rather than starting off with knocking off the big goals, and you’ll manifest what you want.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

It’s so easy to feel overwhelmed. I often feel overwhelmed when I try to complete and balance too many things at once. My biggest advice when feeling overwhelmed is to find something that grounds you, whether that be working out, reading, going on a walk, talking to a friend, a night out. Find something that grounds you and reminds you of why you started. For me, many things help me feel less overwhelmed. Working out is something that I keep consistent in my life, it helps me to stay balanced and focused, and it puts my energy into my body, something physical, rather than mental. It also is a great way for me to release stress. But I also feel less overwhelmed when I spend time with good friends, go on a walk in nature and listen to music, journal or light a candle. There are so many things you can do to feel less overwhelmed. My advice is to not wait till you feel overwhelmed to do these but to rather implement these habits into your daily life which will make each day a little easier.
