We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Emily Milan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Emily below.
Hi Emily, so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
I developed my ability to take risks by gradually stepping out of my comfort zone and embracing challenges that pushed my limits. Early on, I realized that taking calculated risks was essential for growth, both personally and professionally. I started by assessing potential outcomes carefully and preparing for different scenarios. Over time, I built confidence by learning from each experience, even when things didn’t go as planned.
Additionally, I focus on viewing risks as opportunities for innovation and improvement, rather than just potential setbacks. Working in diverse fields like construction, freelancing, and running my own business has taught me that success often comes from taking informed leaps, trusting my skills, and adapting quickly to new situations
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Thank you for the opportunity to share my story! Professionally, I wear several hats—I’m an accounting freelancer, work in construction, and own a 360 photo booth party and entertainment services business. Each of these endeavors allows me to tap into different skill sets and connect with people in unique ways.
What excites me most about my 360 photo booth business is the joy it brings to events. It’s not just about taking pictures—it’s about creating memories, sparking laughter, and giving guests an unforgettable experience. Whether it’s a wedding, corporate event, or birthday party, the energy and creativity that come with this service make every event special.
I’m also proud of the adaptability and personalization we offer to clients. We’re currently working on introducing new interactive features for our booths to make the experience even more engaging. In addition, we’re expanding our services to cover more locations and partner with event planners to reach new audiences.
Beyond the entertainment business, my background in accounting and construction provides a solid foundation for running and growing my ventures. I enjoy balancing the creative aspects of my brand with strategic planning and problem-solving.
At the heart of everything I do is a commitment to delivering value and building lasting relationships. I’d love for readers to follow our journey and consider us for their next big event!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three qualities and skills that have been most impactful in my journey are adaptability, financial literacy, and relationship-building.
1. Adaptability: Whether it’s balancing multiple roles, tackling unexpected challenges, or pivoting in response to market trends, adaptability has been crucial. For anyone starting out, I’d recommend stepping out of your comfort zone often and embracing change as an opportunity to learn. Being flexible will open doors you didn’t expect.
2. Financial Literacy: As an accounting freelancer and business owner, understanding finances has been fundamental to success. It’s not just about crunching numbers—it’s about using financial insights to make smart decisions and plan for the future. My advice is to invest in learning the basics of budgeting, forecasting, and profitability, even if it’s just for personal use, as it can greatly impact your ability to grow.
3. Relationship-Building: Whether in construction, freelancing, or my entertainment business, strong relationships have been key to progress. From networking with peers to building trust with clients, cultivating genuine connections has opened countless doors. For those early in their journey, focus on listening, being dependable, and finding ways to add value to others’ lives.
If you’re starting out, don’t feel like you need to master everything all at once. Focus on building these skills gradually, and look for mentors or experiences that can guide you along the way.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, the first thing I do is pause and take a step back to assess the situation. It’s easy to get caught up in the chaos, but giving myself a moment to breathe helps me regain focus. I usually prioritize tasks by identifying what’s most urgent and important, then breaking them down into smaller, manageable steps.
I also find it helpful to lean on tools and systems. For example, I use scheduling apps and task lists to stay organized, and I set aside specific blocks of time for focused work without distractions.
Lastly, self-care plays a big role in managing overwhelm. Taking a walk, meditating, or even just spending time with friends helps me reset and come back with a clearer mind. My advice to others is to be kind to yourself—overwhelm is natural, and finding what helps you recharge is just as important as tackling your to-do list.
