Meet Darren Peterson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Darren Peterson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Darren , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

I’ve always been a stutterer. According to research people HATE public speaking more than death. So I have struggled with many mental obstacles that come with that, but I never let that be an excuse on why I could not achieve my dreams. In addition, people that stutter have a high suicide rate. As a result of knowing that, that was never an option and i began to love adversity and it’s the reason why I am here today. The confidence from my Father and instilling me hard work. He went through a lot as a kid and it was only right for him to instill that in me. So you can say confidence is something that i learned through valuing myself. Sports played huge part in that and my Dads resources and support.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The Importance of My Father’s Presence:
Having my dad there every day had a profound impact on me, and I believe it was crucial for any boy growing up. Research shows that many boys struggle to reach their full potential when their fathers are absent, and I was fortunate to have a strong, consistent father figure. My dad was an imposing figure—educated, a collegiate athlete, and a college coach at Pepperdine. He was a model of discipline and achievement, and as a “daddy’s boy,” I admired everything he did. I wanted to follow in his footsteps and learn from his example.

Overcoming My Stutter:
I’ve struggled with stuttering my entire life. It’s often said that people fear public speaking more than death, and for me, facing this challenge daily was a tough internal battle. However, sports and my father’s “Just Do It” mindset gave me the mental strength to push through. He often told me, “Tough times don’t last, but tough people do,” and that philosophy became my anchor. It taught me that no matter what obstacles come my way, I have the resilience to overcome them.

Lessons from My Father’s Early Passing:
Losing my dad at a young age was a pivotal moment in my life. The lessons he imparted to me were essential not only to my personal success but also to the success of my family. While I didn’t always agree with everything he said, I deeply trusted his judgment. His “Just Do It” mentality inspired me to take things even further. It motivated me to create ResultsNotExcuses@zoinlove, a platform where I channel that same drive and mindset into helping others push past their limitations.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

The most helpful in overcoming challenges and developing the essential skills and qualities I needed to succeed have been my dad and the family that I built for myself. I have seen firsthand that sometimes, parents force relationships with emotionally unstable or distant family members, teaching their kids that they should love unconditionally, no matter how they are treated. I, on the other hand, believe that this way of thinking is not always a healthy lesson. As a result, I have created my own family and extended support network, which have been instrumental in my growth and success. My biggest area of growth has been in overcoming my stutter. I have gained so much confidence, especially since I started my podcast. I had to face my fears head-on and refused to let a speech impediment hold me back from reaching my goals. The progress I have made in the last year has been incredible. I am living proof of the Results Not Excuses way of life. That is why I believe the ideal partnerships are companies that are open to adopting our services and value the endless benefits we offer both to the company and its employees. Any sports team looking to adopt our mindset to help their athletes succeed both on and off the field is welcome as well. Anyone who is interested in subscribing to our podcast and new and existing customers who support our merchandise and want to stand for something meaningful— are greatly appreciated and are commended for feeling empowered by wearing our apparel and aligning with our values.
