Meet Yazmine Artis

We recently connected with Yazmine Artis and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Yazmine , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I get my work ethic from my Haitian upbringing and life experiences. Growing up, I watched my mom, Jasmine, work tirelessly and overcome challenges, teaching me that dedication and consistency can make anything possible. At 16, I had to support myself, starting with selling $1 cupcakes. That experience taught me discipline, sacrifice, and the value of hard work, which I carried into building Starr Delightss. Every plate I serve reflects my commitment to excellence, my heritage, and the legacy I want to leave for my daughter. My work ethic is rooted in turning dreams into reality and bringing joy to others through food.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Starr Delightss is more than just a catering business—it’s a reflection of my journey, culture, and passion for food. I started Starr Delightss at the age of 16, driven by the need to support myself and inspired by my Haitian roots. Today, my brand brings the flavors of Haiti to life through carefully crafted dishes that combine tradition with creativity.

What excites me most about my work is the opportunity to connect with people through food. Whether I’m catering small events, preparing meal preps, or sharing my recipes, my focus is always on creating memorable experiences. Right now, I’m working on expanding my services to include a Haitian meal prep line, making it easier for busy families to enjoy authentic, balanced meals. Additionally, I’m in the process of creating an e-cookbook featuring my signature rice dishes, which I hope will inspire others to explore Haitian cuisine in their own kitchens.

Looking ahead, I envision Starr Delightss evolving into a space where people can not only enjoy great food but also feel the warmth of Haitian hospitality. My goal is to show that food is not just nourishment, it’s a story, a connection, and a source of joy.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three most important qualities that have impacted my journey are perseverance, faith, and adaptability.

1. Perseverance: Staying consistent and pushing forward, even in tough times, has been essential. Starting Starr Delightss at 16 meant facing challenges head-on, but I knew that every small step was part of a bigger purpose. For those starting their journey, remember that success takes time, and persistence will always pay off.
2. Faith: My faith has been the foundation of everything I do. It gives me strength, guides my decisions, and reminds me that I’m never alone, even when the road feels uncertain. I’ve learned to trust God’s timing and believe that He has placed me on this path for a reason. For others, I encourage finding a source of faith or inspiration that keeps you grounded and focused on your purpose.
3. Adaptability: Being able to adjust and think creatively has helped me grow Starr Delightss into what it is today. Whether it’s tweaking a recipe or reimagining my business strategies, adaptability has allowed me to turn challenges into opportunities. My advice is to remain open to learning and willing to pivot when necessary.

These qualities have not only shaped my business but also helped me navigate life’s challenges with hope and resilience.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, I ground myself by turning to my faith and focusing on the bigger picture. Prayer and quiet moments of reflection help me regain clarity and remind me that I don’t have to face everything alone. As a first-time mom, it can be challenging to find the right work-life balance. There are moments when juggling my business, personal life, and motherhood feels like too much, but breaking tasks into smaller steps and prioritizing helps me stay on track.

I also lean on my support system, including my family and close friends, who remind me that it’s okay to ask for help. Whether it’s watching my daughter for a few hours or simply offering encouragement, having people I trust makes all the difference.

My advice to others is to give yourself grace. Overwhelm is natural, especially when balancing multiple roles, but taking a step back, breathing, and leaning on those around you can help you reset. Remember that progress is progress, even if it’s just one small step at a time.
