We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Isabella Schmidt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Isabella, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic absolutely comes from my family. From the time I had my very first job in high school, I was taught that if you really want something you have to work hard for it. And not only that, but it takes a team. Everything good takes hard work and is not supposed to come easy; if it was easy we would all have everything at our fingertips with no problem. You decide what is worth it to you and how badly you are willing to work for it. I saw a dream in Jexy from the beginning and have worked incredibly hard every single day since. I don’t remember the last time I had a “no Jexy” day, this is a 365 days a year commitment, lol! I would not have it any other way and would not be here without my incredible team who shares the vision with me.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Jexy LLC is an all inclusive influencer marketing talent agency. We manage all of our influencers in house along with their partnerships, strategizing growth and networking amongst all parties. What I feel makes Jexy so special is the bond our team forms with our influencers and each other. No matter how big we grow we always want to have a small family feel within each relationship. It is such a beautiful and special thing to see our talent’s dreams come true by getting their dream partnerships, being able to support their families, having the ability to leave their full time office jobs and so much more. When one person wins, we all win!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Perseverance, this is your dream and no one can make it happen except you. You have to really really want it and being willing to sacrifice and do anything to make it happen.
Hustle and grind! You have to be ready to work a lot of unpaid hours for a long period of time. It is important to understand that for most people it isn’t all just going to blow up overnight so you have to be ready to commit to 24/7, 365 days a year.
Passion. You have to truly love what it is you are doing. You have to eat, sleep and breathe this amazing thing you are deciding to grow from scratch. People will doubt you, people will tell you how hard it is going to be and some people will think “why on earth are they doing that”. Your passion has to be greater than anything anyone says and your passion has to come with a why. Why are you starting this, who are you doing this for and what is your long term goal?
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
You have to remember that you are still human and you will have breakdowns, you will get exhausted and you will feel overwhelmed. The biggest thing I had to learn was how not to get burnt out while working incredibly hard and long hours. For me, I try to take a least one hour out of everyday where there are no distractions and I can focus on myself. Personally, I am a very active person so I workout everyday and this releases a lot of stress and helps to clear my mind. Self care is very important because if you do not take care of yourself, mentally and physically, your business will not thrive. You have to be committed to inspiring and growing yourself everyday.
