Meet Shanita Brown

We recently connected with Shanita Brown and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanita, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.

My optimism comes from being intent on having control over my life. I am a firm believer in the power of the tongue and how we can speak things into existence. My life is not perfect by a long shot and yes there are things in my life that are negative but if I don’t give those things my energy it will give me the strength and will power to handle them with optimism. Have you every realized when you are not feeling well that it is a habit for you to say, “I don’t feel well”. Well, the more you say it the worse you feel. That goes with any situation in your life. You have to learn to speak good things into your life and good things will happen. The power of the tongue.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I make movies! I write, direct and produce movies. I am a filmmaker. 7 short films have been completed since February 2022. Those 7 short films have earned me 19 awards in the film festival circuit. Writing has always come natural to me since I was a little kid. Stories, poems, films and more were written throughout the years. A very exciting fact about me is that I feel it is easy to take a film that I have written and turn it into a movie because I know what I envision., but to be able to take someone else’s script and bring it to life. That is more rewarding to me. After gaining so much knowledge and experience working on set, I wanted to spread my knowledge to kids who have an interest in filmmaking. I started a program called, Kids in Production, which allows one kid to come to set with me and a guardian and learn a few skills on filmmaking. One child is allowed so that they can get the attention they need to learn something. I am currently working on my very first feature film. I am also getting things together to have a premiere in my hometown.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back I think the three areas of filmmaking that were most impactful is the fact that everyone has a job to do. Teamwork is very important on set. Communication is key for everyone involved in making a movie. Advice I have for folks that are early in the filmmaking journey is do not try to do all the jobs by yourself. Give everyone a job and let it flow.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I am always looking for people to collaborate or partner with. I am looking for crew members that have flexibility in their schedule. Crew members such as asst directors, directors, writers, gaffers, sound, lighting, wardrobe, MUA and more. To connect with me find me on instagram @shanitaabrown and facebook @shanita.a.brown.
