We recently connected with Deanna Araceli and have shared our conversation below.
Deanna, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
This is a beautiful question. I get my resilience from my ancestors, blood and land, and my present family. My childhood upbringing was a bit dark in the beginning. I witnessed the abuse of my two older sisters and mother. At 5 years old, I told my mom that it was time to leave my father and get to a safe environment.
As I got older, I noticed something I couldn’t name at the time. Once I stepped into my spiritual walk and then the reclamation of my roots, I started to connect more with the land around me and, in turn, the ancestors of my bloodline and stars. When I look at the stories from my ancestors past, some were slaves, some were colonizers, others were traumatized, raped, killed and abused. When I saw both my paternal and maternal lines have these atrocities, I realized the most important thing is that we continue to keep going. Despite the tragedy, we find joy and laughter in the presence.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
First and foremost, I want to lean into the understanding that I am most excited to BE, not do, in this world. I have many passions, some that came naturally, others I had to fight to have them in my life. I dedicate my time to the liberation and education of all people in all timelines, past, present, and future. I have been working in the educational field for over 17 years. I have lived extensively abroad, teaching as well as learning from other teachers or spiritual masters.
While living in Mexico in 2016, I started to dive into my writing as an artistic expression and outlet for my personal shadow work. I wrote poetry, started to draw and experiment with different musical mediums, ultimately leading me to record and release two EP’s under artist name, D. Dhara. I hope to release a full-length album in the coming years. In 2018, I started my Herstory blog, Underground Realms, where I focused on Matriarchal figures and tribal cultures that have been forgotten. [There is a revival of this mission coming soon!]
I noticed quickly that I was searching for a deeper purpose and how to integrate my spirituality into my educational background. This led me to create LA Casa de Luz in 2020. LA Casa de Luz is a home of divination and Spiritual School. I offer spiritual counseling, mediumship readings, classes, and mentorship, helping others reach their fullest potential as spirit souls!
Each year, I dive deeper into my why. In 2024, I was faced with different challenges, and throughout it all, I have tried to understand how to make the most impact in my communities. With the launch of my first poetry book, “Walking Piece of Art: Poetry for Healing,” and other books on the way, I am excited to strengthen my offerings and community in 2025 and years to come. Subscribe to my email list to be in the know of future community projects!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
There are many qualities, skills, and characteristics one has to cultivate to make the most of one’s life and tap into one’s soul’s purpose. Three important things that I feel have carried me forward in my journey are determination, persistence, and open-mindedness.
We must be determined to understand the self. With determination, no obstacle or challenge can stop you. Now, there is a time to pause but to never give up. This is why persistence is important. We must persist in our truth and believe that our dreams matter. Besides these two qualities, I feel the most benefical qualities is to be open-minded. This allows our curiosity to take the stage and allows us to reflect within so we can improve any of our faults. Being introspective about the world around us gives us a better sense of how to live our authentic truth.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
When you’re a person like me, and you have many passions and different modes of being, it is easy to get overwhelmed by the organization, priorities, and all the other challenges that come from running a business and being an artist.
When I self-published my Poetry book, I was unaware of the energy I needed to market it organically. This led me to create a community with many different organizations around Southern California. This took a lot of my time away from my personal offerings and content creation. I realized working in this way was not sustainable at all for me.
At the moment, I am working on organizing my systems and funnels once again so I can take away any stress I have with juggling multiple projects. Instead of spreading myself thin, I am looking for ways to focus on the bigger picture at hand. I have multiple coaches, spiritual advisors, and friends who are helping me bring clarity to my situation. I am condensing, working smarter, not harder. I am also not over-endeavoring; if something doesn’t come easy, I know I have to go about it in another way. Thankfully, I have the ability to rest and find that peace to continue my passionate desires.
