We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Manami Takagi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Manami, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
At first, I’m very flustered when I take trouble. I depressed it and look back what is wrong with it. Thinking about it for a couple of days and then, I try to forget about it. To do something my favorite.
Like to go to museums, book stores, watching movies, go to the cafe, buy something expencive.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a nail artist. I started to do learn nail art when I was 26 years old. Until start to do nail, I went to collage for just education. I always wanted to be something artist. Because I love art.. but I didn’t know how to be. I just working at the office in Tokyo. It was fun but get me little bored. I felt wanna do something special. And then, I decided to study abroad NYC when I was 23 years old. It just 6 months study abroad but it was so fun and changed my opinion. I decide to come back here someday. But I still have no idea how to go back NYC.
I started to work at the ice cream store. One day I decorated client’s bday cake, I realized my decoration is so perfect than any other my coworkers. And then I realized I think I can be good painting! So I remember when I studied abroad, there is an nail artist in my class. So I started to learn nail art! This is why I start to nail art.
I’m working in nail salon at NYC it call “Vanity Projects “.
Here is so many good artists, I’m always learning something new art, because the artists are so good, and so detail, complex art.
I’m looking forward my art style lately. My favorite art style is simple and elegant. Not crazy art but I want to people’s nail looks clean beautiful.
My inspiration is from museums and street art. I think my style belong to Japanese nail art., but mixing American is going to be unique.
I came to US in September 2022. So I still looking for my style something unique!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1 movies There are so many inspirations.
2trip
Can see so many different things
3books
Read something new, think about them and know about person who I’ve never met before.
I think reading books and watching movies, see something new is good way to have knowledge.
Because when we knew somebody or something I’ve never known, compare with myself, try to do something new. Even I’m not agree with their opinion.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
