Meet Kheyala Bright

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kheyala Bright. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kheyala below.

Kheyala, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

Optimism to me is another form of happiness, something to be practiced, it is a wisdom of sorts, a mindset of positivity that comes from trust in yourself and trust in the universe. It is a splendid characteristic and I am blessed to have had it shown to me, so I can also share it with others if or when they need it. No doubt my optimism comes from my Ma and Pa. They brought the light into my life by teaching me at a young age that at the deepest root level, everything is energy and light. Shifting, transforming, expanding, contracting. That we are here to conduct and magnify these truths, by loving, learning, growing, creating, and sharing, together.

Also a childhood addiction to 90s animated classic Anastasia singing “One Step at a Time” and Annie, her pioneering attitude belting “The Sun Will Come Out” – I mean, come on, pure optimism!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’ve been poppin’ up shop in the weekend market/fair/festival circuit for 6 years in Northern Cali offering my beaded jewelry and a curated closet specializing in reworked vintage and handmade clothing. A quality eclectic mix of styles, colors and textures is what I strive for. My handmade clothing is made with vintage fabrics and my reworked clothing ranges from patchworked army jackets to valance curtains turned flowy summer crop tops. It’s a side gig that brings me a whole lotta joy and brings balance to my life.

I absolutely adore meeting so many people and seeing pieces have their “cinderella moment”. I’ve been focused on in-person events mostly for clothing the past few years but I love to take on commissions for custom jewelry in beaded or charms.

Next is putting some good energy into uploading my inventory onto an online platform. In addition I would like to start offering vintage style boxes and more personal shopping options, so I can collaborate and work more directly with clients to build up their wardrobe in a sustainable way with attention to detail, that honors their aesthetic.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I’ve found collaborations to be extremely refreshing and fueling as an artist. The past few years I have been making custom charm necklaces and beaded earrings, and the pieces always turn out really gorgeous. Whether working with a client on a personalized piece or joining forces with another artist to make a collection, there is a potency that comes through.

Keep playing, being curious, and exploring.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

Julia Cameron’s “Artist Way” is such a classic, impactful, oldie but goodie. Truly a cosmic treasure filled to the brim with words of inspiration and support for each one who reads it. If you haven’t read it yet, Julia is a dynamic artist herself who has a special receptivity to Source and tapping into the flow, describing her experiences she helps you also tap in with exercises, inspirational quotes, and pure guidance into discovery and honoring of your creativity.

I was lucky enough to meet Julia and asked her her favorite quote she included in the book and she said, “The force that through the green fuse drives the flower’ by Dylan Thomas.
