We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gustavo De Los Rios a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Gustavo, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I get resilience from my family , life, experience , my failures that now I see those as learning process instead of a failure without them success won’t happen and won’t feel the same
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am from Monterrey Mexico, migrated to USA 01/12 1996 now I am proud to say I am American Citizen
I love both countries Mexico saw me born, , raised, started preparing for my future love for the food , culture, and traditions
USA sculpt my adult life, ever since I decided to moved here I knew there were going to be many, many challenges, starting with learning the language adapt to the new culture the list can go on and on but I had made my mind to overcome any challenge life brings me, once I decided to move back to Mexico which I did last 6 months when I realized I missed Dallas so much that I have to be back to started my greatest journey when I arrived a year later we opened a bar eclipse sol, then became a promotor, then open another bar (Barrocco , met my wife have our first daughter opened Habanero have our second daughter, 2018 till Mami Coco 2 stores 4500 Bryan st , 2706 Samuell Blvd East Dallas , coming soon a food trailer on the road, also a new project Las Brasas here at munger Ave East Dallas ( carne asada )over charcoal, can I give special thanks to the grill master Mario Cortez for all the support and teaching lessons. once again I will try to be and bring the best of me into the culinary world as you see how I can express how much I love USA it embraced me since that January on 1996 thank for all what had brought me and my future as well.
Ever since I can remember I always had been somehow envolved on the service and entertaining industry I can say it runs in my DNA I believe great food always brings memories on a near and further future, so be on a look up for this two new projects as well keep visiting us at the stores
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Patience every process in life takes time so we have to be patient to act the right moment,
Faith and resilience I believe God always provides you, but very important it’s to believe in your self because GOD will give you the opportunity but you have to act and have that resilience to achieve it,
Perseverance I had many, many times wanted to quit but my perseverance had take me this far ,
I will add one last thing not a skill but as or more important to be great full on what you have thank you GOD for taking me this far
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
God and my persona, I always believe in my self, well not true my wife had helped me to achieve that, I really believed that we can learned from any person a kid, adult , elderly anyone that surrounds us. you just have to observe what that person brings to you that particular moment,
I am empiric, I learned by observing everyone I worked with, since the day I decided to be on this industry, there was alway something to take, dos or don’ts, then take it to practice, just a close down a small advice, love and be passionate on what you do results will come with it and work won’t feel like work can have journeys of 14 hours you will feel tired physically but inside happy on what you have accomplished
