Hi David, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
When it comes to resilience, I derive it from my refusal to accept the status quo and my determination to bring about positive change. Throughout the years, I’ve nurtured a strong sense of creativity and problem-solving, always seeking alternative paths when faced with obstacles. The idea of giving up on something I truly desire has never settled well with me. I’ve learned this mindset from my experiences in sports, where I realized that achieving my goals required relentless dedication and perseverance. Along the way, I’ve accepted that pursuing meaningful objectives often demands making sacrifices, both big and small, to reach the desired destination.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Sure, I’d be happy to share some insights about myself and what we do at Ocean Beach Pallet Co (OBPCO). Our primary focus is to enhance the efficiency of our business while keeping overhead costs low. We pride ourselves on being resourceful and constantly seeking ways to improve. Our approach involves starting with simple and cost-effective solutions, and then gradually scaling up when we identify more effective methods.
Currently, we have two owners, Fabian and myself, who work in both production and business development. We also have a core team that is more like family. We believe that by investing in the right team and optimizing our processes, we can continue to thrive and achieve our goals at OBPCO and most importantly provide our clients with cherished products.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
If I were to choose three qualities that are crucial to develop, I’d say:
1. Unwavering Dedication: Maintaining a steadfast commitment to your goals and objectives is essential. It means staying focused on the long-term vision and persevering through challenges and setbacks.
2. Adaptability and High Standards: Striking a balance between setting high standards and being open to adjustments based on market feedback and customer input is vital. It’s important to be receptive to constructive criticism and continuously improve and evolve accordingly.
3. Efficient Problem Solving and Implementation: Addressing issues promptly and effectively is key to success. Once a problem or opportunity for improvement is identified, it’s essential to take decisive action, implement lasting solutions, and create standardized processes for ongoing efficiency.
Ultimately, in business, making smart moves and generating profits are fundamental objectives. By incorporating these three qualities into our approach, we can optimize our performance and achieve sustainable success.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
First and foremost a big shoutout to the all of our customers. I am extremely grateful to those first local customers who found me on craigslist, offer up, and Facebook marketplace. Without all of them I wouldn’t have made the jump to Etsy and ship outside of my area. Now we ship our vinyl record holders, coffee tables, and entertainment centers all over the U.S. and we just delivered our first piece to Canada.
The clients requested living room furniture and custom handcrafted builds. I kept challenging myself by taking on those new products and making them as best I could. I kept improving my skills by making mistakes, learning, getting better tools, and lots of YouTube. Thanks to ongoing orders everything improved over time: my shop, skills, builds, tools, customer service, and my life.
