Meet Laiya Reneè

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Laiya Reneè a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Laiya, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

You know, the journey of confidence and self-esteem is not linear. It’s not something that always comes naturally or even comes at all. Sometimes you really have to fake it till you make it. I really struggled in my younger days constantly comparing myself to other artist or just other people in general and could never be happy with who I was. Talk about a humbling experience right. I quickly learned that comparison really is the thief of joy and it really can strip your blessings. Accepting that God made me perfectly and wonderfully in his image was the best switch in perspective for me. Really loving on Laiya how God pours his love into me and his people. I spent a lot of time (and lost a lot of time) always looking for validation from others. Now, I spend my days learning who really IS Laiya? What does SHE want? I’m still learning it’s okay to be different as long as I love and am passionate with my art. That’s the most important.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My name is Laiya Reneè and I am a Singer/Songwriter.

I am extremely various and don’t necessarily claim a specific genre of music. Nonetheless, if it all had to boil down to one i’d describe my style as Alternative R&B.
I don’t currently have any music out (working on it) but a lot of my covers and renditions you can find on my social media show a good depiction of this. I love to take a song and play with the melody and phrasing to make it mine. What I say is that I “color” the song. I look forward to my audience hearing this in my upcoming bodies of work. A big switch in energy and work ethic for my art has been developing and can’t wait to see what 2025 brings me. I always like to say I am a student. Steadily, looking to evolve my artistry as well as who I am as a person. 2025 is the time I get serious with my dreams and making them a reality.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

My foundation of this journey has been pretty consistent of always learning. Never thinking I’m too good or that I know enough. The 3 key qualities to effective learning would be:

– To stay optimistic and of course realistic. Never doubt yourself because your timeline is not moving as fast you want it to. That’s what faith is for. Jeremiah 29:11

– Be okay with asking for help! Let go of your ego and pride. It’s okay to not grasp a concept the first time. It is especially important to be in line to be coachable and open to constructive criticism and/or advice. Community is to serve you and not to harm you.

– Maintain gratitude in everything you do. Being grateful is the best position to be in for doors to remain and continue opening for you. It’s so easy to lose focus on what’s been granted to us because we want to get to what else we want. Find comfort in knowing that you have everything you need at all times.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Absolutely! I am looking for all event hosts, producers, engineers and other artist alike. As I mentioned previously, the goal is continuous networking and collaboration.
