Meet Lexie Samora

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lexie Samora a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Lexie, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Imposter syndrome is honestly a daily struggle being in a creative field. I wouldn’t say I’ve overcome it completely and still question my skills often. I think having people around you who believe in your craft helps fight off the imposter syndrome. I am very lucky to have tons of people who uplift me and my work daily! Especially other creatives. It means everything to me to have close friends in the same industry. We all pick each other up and keep each other creative. Sometimes by checking each other’s editing, getting together for a styled shoot, or just hyping each other up on Instagram. Either way I found the best way to overcome imposter syndrome is to surround yourself with people who appreciate your craft.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My names Alexia, but most people call me Lexie, and I am the Owner/Lead photographer of LexCreates Photography. I’ve been doing photography for over 5 years now and still can’t believe I get to call it my job. LexCreates focuses primarily on elopement and intimate wedding photography but covers a whole range of other photography. Including family portraits, grad portraits, travel documentary, maternity, and more. I am most excited about the people and moments I get to capture! I also get to check out some amazing locations while doing my dream job. Always ready to travel for a wedding or elopement!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think my biggest piece of advice would be to accept criticism and keep practicing. The best thing about photography is that it is always evolving so you never get to stop learning! So just keep shooting. Especially when you’re just starting out! Shoot as often as possible. That will really help you find your style as well. While you keep shoot definitely meet other creatives and get instructive criticism. This will evolve your photography even more plus you get to meet some great photographer friends!

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

Feeling overwhelmed is natural when owning your own business. My best advice that I try to practice everyday is to just take it one step at a time. I know that sounds easy and everyone says it but it is truly important when your plate keeps piling up. I try to deal with this by taking some time to write smaller steps to take towards my goals. That way I can focus on those smaller steps rather than the whole picture. At some point throughout owning a business you are bound to feel overwhelmed but taking a step back and focusing on smaller goals helps to lessen that feeling.
