Meet Susan George

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Susan George. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Susan, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I don’t – everyone that is a human has self-doubts, fears, and possible unworthiness when it comes to certain levels of success or exposure. I feel like this is something women definitely struggle with more than men and to move passed these feelings on inadequacy when a new challenge comes along, can be used as a tool to combat those societal norms we may have been conditioned to.

Just like I tell my kids when they’re scared or nervous; that’s ok, and do it anyway. It’s the only way to put fear in it’s appropriate place. Take action and tell yourself you are capable of handling whatever may come.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a creative entrepreneur, which means I’m juggling multiple projects between my social media marketing agency, Mediary Marketing and my career as a pop/soul recording artist and writer.

What fascinates me about social media is the opportunity for anyone to gain a following and find a pathway to make income off of their passions. I see it as a great equalizer where an aspiring artist singing from their home, can get just as much exposure as someone on a major label. I believe content creators are the future of the entertainment industry and I’m passionate about bringing the older models of marketing into the future with content marketing and strategic long term partnerships.

Mediary does everything from creator management and brand deal brokering, to content strategy and creation, to full blown digital advertising campaigns that include a combination of influencers, paid advertising, and a steady stream of story-telling focused content. As well as helping brands launch and scale their products on Tiktok Shop. Each client’s needs are different so we can cater what we feel will be the best pathway for accomplishing their unique goals.

Currently, we’re expanding our live selling options for brand and creators and would love to create a content studio model that can be built out across the country. A space for people to come record podcasts, shoot creative or business content, and have our resources available for editing, shooting, and fill whatever gaps there may be.

I love the ability to switch hats from business to music because they each fill a different cup for me and I’ve found I like having both. Additionally, I love testing various types and styles of content – it’s fun to try something out on my own socials and then use what we learn to make our clients more successful as well.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1) Adaptability – in the social media world, things are constantly changing so your ability to adapt and shift gears is imperative.

2) Action and Experimentation – you never know how things will go unless you try it out. Reading Kendra Scott’s book was so validating for me when she spoke about “building the plane while it’s flying.” I learned it’s OK to not have everything in your business totally mapped out because trying something new could take you a different direction you never expected. It feels like dating a bit, figuring out what you like, what you don’t, and which endeavors are worth putting in the work..

3) Authenticity – People’s tolerance for a facade, especially in the younger generation, has gone down significantly with social media allowing personal insights into someone’s every day lives. I see this as valuable, as we all want more genuine connection. If you have the ability to be exactly who you are, you will find your tribe quickly and they will be your ride or die community. If you try to build a brand on something fake, it simply won’t go the distance.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I love collaborations – in music, in business, in life. I am not shy about pointing out my flaws and would so much rather partner with someone who excels in my weaknesses. I’ve found that every collaboration myself or the business has been a part of, has only amplified each participants reach and experience.

We prioritize working with women and minority owned brands and love doing what we can to help them succeed.

More recently, I would love to join forces with a real estate partner to help build out these content studios to give necessary resources for businesses and creators alike.

I’d love to work on comprehensive campaigns for tv show or movie launches, and/or big product launches for companies like Fenty, or Ouai.
