Meet Erin Delander

We were lucky to catch up with Erin Delander recently and have shared our conversation below.

Erin , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I gained resilience from a young age. From the age of nine, I was showing symptoms of an autoimmune disease. It wasn’t until I was 16 that I got a diagnosis of Lupus SLE from a doctor. Since then and prior, I go through periods of stability and times of flares. I have had long stays in the hospital and scary medical situations, but I survived. Most of the things that I have experienced with my lupus, I don’t think many would still have a great attitude and be resilient. I think that my lupus, while it often sucks, has made me the strong woman that I am today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I have been focused on the growth of my business, where I offer interior design for renovations/new construction and Feng Shui. I offer design/ renovation locally in Denver and surrounding areas for residential and light commercial spaces. I offer Feng shui services internationally (virtual consultations) for residential and commercial. My goal for any client is to help create the most supportive space for them, their family, or their organization. I want everyone to feel healthy and supported in their environments.

Feng Shui can bring in a bit of the metaphysical and support anyone with their desires or goals. We all go through changes in life that bring up new goals or desires. Feng Shui can help shift the energy of your space to support you in achieving new goals or starting something new. It can help clear unwanted energies from a room/home/building to clear space for new abundance. We are more tied to our environments than we realize.

Regardless of the client and their design or Feng Shui goals, I always want my clients to know that I am here for them and to bring those goals to life.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
What works for me isn’t going to work for everyone, and I fully acknowledge that. For me, being passionate from a young age about what I wanted to do impacted my journey. Along the way, I developed great people skills through empathy and developed my toolkit with my skillset. Working in a creative, service-based industry, I think that having good people skills can be hard to come by. I have met many designers that are great with clients but not so good with their colleagues. Having good people skills is being able to empathize with anyone, even if they rub you the wrong way. We are all going through our journeys and it is important to show grace towards our fellow humans. As for the hard skills, that takes a lot of classes, time, and dedication to learning.

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client understands the practical benefit of hiring an interior designer instead of doing a renovation project independently. Interior designers help organize every detail for you and in my case, I can communicate it through construction drawings for a general contractor. I have construction management experience so I want the project to go smoothly from start to completion.

For Feng Shui clients, it is anyone that is open to personal growth through the energy of their space.
