Meet Jojo Munroe

We recently connected with Jojo Munroe and have shared our conversation below.

Jojo, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

My confidence comes from my work ethic and my faith in God. I know the amount of work that I put in and the sacrifices I make so I trust that it will pay off. I believe that I am different from other people because of my ability to lock in and focus on the things that will actually make me successful. I have high expectations for myself and I know the life that I envision for myself so I have no choice but to overcome imposter syndrome or a lack of confidence to get there.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I grew up in The Bahamas where my love for basketball began. Coming from a small island, I quickly learned the importance of resilience, hard work, and adaptability. My dedication for basketball gave me the opportunity to play basketball at the collegiate level in The United States.

Currently, I have a role as an Assistant Coach for a collegiate Men’s Basketball Team in Mesa, Arizona. Transitioning from being a student athlete to a coaching role has been a rewarding challenge. It’s allowed me to not only share my knowledge of the game but also mentor young athletes on their own journeys, helping them develop both on and off the court.

I started a Non-Profit organization in June 2024 called The Jojo Munroe Foundation and our mission is to provide opportunities for young athletes and help them thrive in life despite challenging circumstances.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Hard work, faith and sacrifice.

Looking back I worked hard and sacrificed a lot of things such as partying, friendships/relationships. I spent thousands of hours working on my craft and studying how I can become the best and get ahead of people. I read books, listened to podcasts and watched a lot of Youtube. I was always watching and learning from people that was where I want to be.

My faith also got me where I am today. It was a lot of times where I wanted to give up on myself because things didn’t work out or I didn’t get the opportunity I thought was good for me at the time. Knowing that God works out all things for our good gave me the confidence and motivation that I needed. I also knew that everyone’s journey is different and if I worked hard nonetheless I will be prepared and be right where God wants me to be.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

My biggest area of growth has been my confidence and overcoming imposter syndrome.
