Meet Narkesha Brown

We recently connected with Narkesha Brown and have shared our conversation below.

Narkesha, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

“When I first started my journey as a tax professional, I felt like I was constantly questioning whether I truly belonged in the industry. Despite my knowledge and qualifications, I would sometimes sit in meetings with clients or other professionals and wonder if I was enough. Could I really provide the solutions my clients needed? Was I truly the expert they believed me to be?

It hit particularly hard when I started specializing in trucker taxes. Trucking is such a unique industry, with its own rules, challenges, and communities, and I felt a heavy weight of responsibility to get it all right for my clients. The idea of someone depending on me for their financial security was intimidating.

What helped me overcome those feelings was twofold: preparation and connection. I poured myself into learning everything I could about my niche—reading, asking questions, and even attending seminars to stay ahead. But more importantly, I leaned into my love for people and connection. Instead of seeing my clients as an intimidating responsibility, I started to see them as partners. When I shared my knowledge, listened to their needs, and solved their problems, their trust became my affirmation.

I also drew strength from my personal life. Family time, cooking for loved ones, and karaoke nights helped remind me of my worth outside of my career. One moment stands out vividly: I was out one night at karaoke and halfway through, I thought, ‘This is me. I have a voice, and I belong.’ That sense of joy and authenticity carried into my work.

Overcoming imposter syndrome wasn’t about eliminating fear; it was about showing up anyway. It was about learning that confidence isn’t the absence of doubt—it’s the refusal to let doubt dictate your actions. Today, I’m proud to say I’ve earned my place as a trusted tax professional specializing in trucker taxes. My clients know they can count on me, and now, so do I.”

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

“As a tax professional, I’ve found my purpose in helping individuals and businesses navigate the often-overwhelming world of taxes. My niche is trucker taxes, a field that’s as dynamic as it is essential. Truck drivers keep our country moving, and I’m honored to support them by making sure their financial lives are as steady and smooth as the roads they travel.

What excites me most about my work is the opportunity to empower others. Taxes can feel like an intimidating maze, but I love being the person who helps simplify the process, uncover opportunities, and provide peace of mind. For me, it’s not just about the numbers—it’s about the people. Whether I’m helping a new client maximize their deductions or educating a seasoned trucker on strategies to better manage their finances, I know my work makes a tangible difference in their lives.

Beyond tax preparation, my goal is education and community building. I’m passionate about providing resources and insights that help my clients feel confident and informed. I’ve made it a priority to offer convenient ways for clients to connect with me. Whether someone has a quick question or needs in-depth tax planning, I provide flexible one-on-one consultation options that are easy to book. My goal is to ensure every client receives personalized advice tailored to their unique circumstances, all while making the process as seamless and stress-free as possible.

Outside of my work, I find inspiration in my personal passions—cooking, music, and family time. These moments of joy and creativity fuel me professionally, reminding me to bring that same energy and care into my client relationships.

Looking ahead, I’m excited about expanding my services to reach even more people. From hosting workshops to creating digital resources specifically designed for truckers, I’m committed to making tax education accessible and impactful.

For anyone interested in learning more or working with me, I encourage you to schedule a consultation. Whether you’re a trucker looking for guidance or simply someone ready to take control of your finances, I’m here to help you succeed!”

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back on my journey, I can confidently say that three qualities have been pivotal in shaping both my professional and personal growth: resilience, empathy, and a commitment to continuous learning.

No journey is without its challenges, and resilience has been my anchor during tough times. Early in my career, I faced moments of doubt, like when I struggled with imposter syndrome or encountered complex client situations. Instead of letting those moments defeat me, I used them as opportunities to grow. Resilience doesn’t mean never falling—it means always getting back up and pushing forward. My advice to anyone starting out is to embrace challenges as stepping stones. Each difficulty you overcome makes you stronger and more prepared for the next.

Working with people—especially those navigating something as stressful as taxes—has taught me the importance of empathy. Understanding a client’s fears, goals, and dreams is just as important as understanding tax law. Empathy allows you to connect on a deeper level and build trust, which is the foundation of any successful relationship. To develop this skill, I recommend listening more than you speak. Whether it’s with clients, colleagues, or loved ones, seek to understand before you respond.

The tax industry is constantly evolving, with new laws and regulations emerging every year. Staying informed isn’t just an obligation—it’s a passion for me. I’m always looking for ways to improve my knowledge and find better ways to serve my clients. For anyone early in their journey, I encourage you to become a lifelong student. Read, take courses, attend seminars, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. The more you invest in your learning, the more confident and valuable you’ll become.

Ultimately, success is a combination of mindset, skill, and heart. No matter where you are in your journey, focus on building resilience, practicing empathy, and committing to learning, and you’ll be amazed at how far those qualities can take you.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

The Bible has been an unwavering guide in my personal and professional journey, shaping my values, mindset, and decisions. Its wisdom is timeless and has provided me with strength and direction, especially during challenging times.

One verse that has deeply impacted me is Proverbs 3:5-6: ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.’ This passage reminds me to rely on faith and not let fear or doubt cloud my judgment. It’s been particularly meaningful when I’ve faced uncertainties in my career or when I’ve needed clarity about my next steps.

Another verse that resonates with me is Colossians 3:23: ‘Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.’ This has shaped how I approach my work as a tax professional. I strive to serve my clients with integrity, excellence, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact—not just because it’s my job, but because it aligns with a higher purpose.

Lastly, Philippians 4:13: ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,’ has been a source of encouragement whenever I’ve doubted my abilities. It reminds me that with faith, perseverance, and trust in God, I can overcome any obstacle.

The Bible’s wisdom has taught me to lead with humility, serve with love, and approach every challenge with faith. It’s not just a book I turn to for guidance—it’s the foundation of who I am and how I live my life.
