Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Renauld Shelton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Renauld, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
The haters and nay-sayers keeps me motivated. That doubt and opposition is what I thrive off of. It’s quite and edge that overcomes me when I’m told I can’t do something or won’t make it. Gives me something to look forward to accomplishing and doing it the best way possible. Facing criticism and negativity can be a challenge, but more so a testament to my character. That persistence is instrumental in determining my success and it’s a powerful quality. Being persistent in focusing on the vision, embracing feedback, self-care, being flexible and celebrating small wins and limiting my exposure to negativity. All these things help me cultivate a mindset of growth, while visualizing my success and staying committed. I also feed the need to be persistent keeping myself surrounded by positivity.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
A go-getter, very ambitious and just want to win at everything I do. Multi-faceted in the creative realm, with my hands in fashion with my lifestyle brand Material Opulence and using my acting chops on screen and stage as an actor. I’ve grown to love the craft and want to take it as far as possible. Been having my apparel brand since 2013 and acting since 2020. I’ve aways cared about my appearance, especially how I dressed, you just feel different with a nice outfit on. I want everyone to have that feeling when they wear Material Opulence. I’m currently putting some finishing touches on the winter products to try and get them out this holiday season. When acting on stage for a play, or on screen for a film, I get to create a character and it’s quite a rush. Such a beautiful thing hearing an audience member react to me, both with hatred for my role or the enamored. It’s those little things that solidifies I committed to the role. I’ve recently had the opportunity to be in a few major productions this year on screen, such as a Hallmark holiday film that comes out November 30th and a Lifetime film slated for January 2025.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Discipline is one of the qualities that has been most impactful. Continuing to make progress, even when you don’t feel like it, Being inquisitive is another quality that has impacted my journey. Asking questions for clarity to have better understanding. Resilience is the final most impactful quality. Have the ability to withstand obstacles and adverse times.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Time. Something that’s expendable and unsure of how much I have left to achieve everything I set out to. Certainly trying to find ways to free of some or allocate them to other tasks. If I am able to do so, my success will grow more rapidly.
