Meet Maximillian Wood

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maximillian Wood. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Maximillian, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I was lucky enough to find my purpose at a pretty young age. In middle school, I discovered my love for creating and editing videos. Throughout high school and college, I really fell in love with movies and had a burning desire to make my own someday. Once I started the weekly film discussion podcast Galaxy Of Film, it became clear to me that the thing I wanted the most in life was also completely feasible. Making movies, no matter the position behind the camera, keeps me going. From the moment the pen hits paper to our logo being shown on screen, it’s a non-stop adrenaline rush. I have never felt more like myself than when I’m working on a film.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am the founder of Galaxy Of Film. We are a production company and film discussion podcast that specializes in giving film lovers the chance to not only discuss what they’re passionate about but also give them an opportunity to create the films that they desire. Through Galaxy Of Film, I am a filmmaker who has currently directed eight short films and produced two more. I am also the host of the main podcast series under the same name, which has been running for over 200 consecutive episodes. I’ve directed films that have dealt with deeply personal themes such as heartbreak and depression and as wild as a non-lyrical musical about a man in a bathrobe with a hoverboard. I’ll do anything to bring it to life if it’s a story I love.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three qualities that I think are most important are patience, self-forgiveness, and persistence. To make it in any career, you have to be willing to fail. Once you accept that, you can get back to creating your art and your happiness. “Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.” – Thomas Wayne in Batman Begins

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

The most impactful thing that my mom did for me was support this wild idea to make movies from the beginning. I’ve been at it since I was 11. I’ve shot “mini-movies,” lip-synching videos, and gaming let’s plays, leading up to my current professional short films, interviews, and podcasts. While these all involve being behind a camera, they’re different and crazy in their own unique ways, yet she encouraged them all the same. Putting yourself out into the world can be a really scary thing, and having someone cheer you on through it all goes a long way.
