We recently connected with Lama Abu-amara and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lama, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I believe my work ethic comes from a deep sense of responsibility and passion for what I do. Capturing those fleeting, precious moments of a newborn’s life is not just a job; it’s an honor. I know that these are memories families will cherish forever, and I take that trust very seriously.
My parents instilled in me the value of hard work and the importance of putting care and effort into everything I do. They taught me that success isn’t just about doing the work—it’s about doing it with love, integrity, and excellence.
That mindset carries over into Lama’s Littles. I work hard to ensure every session is a stress-free, joyful experience for parents, even when things don’t go as planned. Whether it’s patiently soothing a fussy baby or creating a safe and comfortable environment, I pour my heart into every detail because I know how meaningful these moments are for my clients.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As the photographer behind Lama’s Littles, I specialize in capturing the precious, fleeting moments of newborns and their families. My work is all about telling the story of new beginnings—those tiny fingers, sleepy smiles, and the quiet bond between parents and their little ones. I create timeless portraits that families can treasure for generations, with a focus on making every session relaxed, safe, and special.
What excites me most about my work is the opportunity to freeze moments in time. Newborns grow so quickly, and it’s such a privilege to provide families with a tangible memory of this magical stage in their lives. What sets Lama’s Littles apart is my commitment to personalized experiences. I take the time to get to know each family and tailor every session to reflect their unique story and style.
This year has been a truly humbling experience—I’ve had the honor of photographing over 100 babies! As I look ahead, I’m thrilled to share that next year, I plan to open up a dedicated studio space where families can enjoy an even more seamless and comfortable experience. On a personal note, the Lama’s Littles brand is also welcoming a new baby, which makes this journey all the more meaningful.
We’ve also introduced beautifully curated gift certificates this year for those who want to share the gift of memories. From expanding our product line to connecting with families at community events and tradeshows, there’s so much to celebrate and look forward to.
At Lama’s Littles, my goal is not just to deliver beautiful photos but to provide an experience that leaves families feeling cared for and valued. I’m so grateful for the trust my clients place in me, and I can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey with Lama’s Littles, three qualities have been especially impactful: persistence, adaptability, and a strong sense of empathy.
Persistence was crucial because there’s a big learning curve in newborn photography—not just in mastering the technical aspects like lighting and posing, but also in understanding how to create a safe, calming environment for both babies and their families. There were moments when it felt overwhelming, but pushing past those challenges and continuing to learn was what allowed me to grow. My advice to anyone starting out is to embrace the discomfort of not knowing everything at first. Growth happens when you step out of your comfort zone and keep going even when it’s hard.
Adaptability has also been key. No two sessions are the same; every baby and family brings a new dynamic. I’ve learned to be flexible and think on my feet—whether that means soothing a fussy baby, pivoting to a new setup, or finding creative solutions when things don’t go as planned. For those early in their journey, I’d say to stay open to learning from each experience and be willing to adjust your approach when necessary.
Lastly, empathy has made all the difference. Becoming a parent can be overwhelming, and many of the families I work with are navigating those emotions during their sessions. Taking the time to truly understand and connect with them helps me provide an experience that’s as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. My advice is to focus on building relationships, not just delivering a product. Listen to your clients, make them feel valued, and let your work reflect that care.
To anyone just starting their journey, remember that it’s okay to not be perfect right away. Push past the learning curve, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to invest time in honing your craft and connecting with the people you serve. Your growth will follow, and it’s so rewarding to see how far you can go.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My biggest area of growth has been scaling the business while maintaining a personal touch. I’ve photographed over 100 babies this year and am preparing to open a studio next year. Learning how to manage this growth without losing the intimate, personalized experience my clients expect has been a challenging but rewarding journey.
