We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sam Parven. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sam below.
Hi Sam, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I was raised that to find fulfillment is to invest in others. I want the people I let into my life, the people I love, or think about, or even interact with to better off for knowing me. By focusing on giving, making them laugh, making them feel supported and cared for and listened to, that is how I gain fulfillment in myself.
I can sleep happily every night knowing that I have worked toward what I truly believe my purpose is: to make the lives of the people around me just a little bit better.
This extends to social media, where I post content and interact with followers in a way that cheers them, provides knowledge and instills confidence. That is what I love to do
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
By day I work in advertising, but I found myself dressing differently than everyone else in the corporate office. I started making videos talking about the outfits I decide to wear that push the office policy envelope in a chic way, that makes going to work fun and a little edgy. I discussed my coworkers and bosses reactions to the outfits and the reasons behind why I chose to wear them. I started challenging myself to dress like different versions of the iconic Ralph Lauren polo bear and have been enjoying finding new ways to think creatively and inspire new aesthetics.
My goal is to create content that is both educational and funny while instilling the confidence in my viewers that they can wear whatever they want and will look good when they step outside of their comfort zone, and I show them examples of how.
One day I would love to make my own clothes that fit some more unique body types, with quality materials and fun twists on classic menswear. In the short term, I plan to start a service where I thrift and buy for people who are building a wardrobe. I will curate based on what they are looking for and find the best options in their budget. Although, for now I am enjoying making videos with friends, family, and sharing my inner monologue of how putting on an outfit can impact my days.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I don’t know if I can offer unique advice to what other creators recommend to those who want to start. Here’s what I will say. Just start, don’t wait till tomorrow, don’t plan or edit the perfect video. Just hit record and try something. See how it performs, try something different. You’re never going to be as lucky as you are when you’re anonymous. You can try stupid new ideas as much as you want and no one will know.
Remember that every negative comment only drives engagement and helps you. Consistency is better than quality and the most important thing to remember is that there is no one else that is you. Your authenticity is your superpower, be yourself, let that shine through, and you can’t lose.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The #1 obstacle is staying inspired. I want to create unique videos that share something new every time. The last thing I want to do is stand in front of the screen with music playing behind me having people just mindlessly look. I want to create captivating, entertaining videos that require real attention, and benefit the viewer for doing so.
It’s really small potatoes, its a fashion video page at the end of the day, but I am very interested in storytelling and humor, and want to lean more into those realms. I am struggling to find my voice and how to showcase it, and working on ideas and trusting my gut!
