We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ruti Wajnberg. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ruti below.

Hi Ruti , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

My path has been a winding one, blending my love for creativity, problem-solving, and precision. My journey began in tech and software development, where I thrived on building systems, debugging complex problems, and working with precision to create functional, beautiful outcomes. I liked my job, but I craved working with my hands and creating something tangible.

When I discovered upholstery, I realized it shared so much with software development—both are technical, requiring precision and an eye for detail, yet deeply creative and problem-solving at their core. In upholstery, I analyze the structure of a piece, figure out how to rebuild and reimagine it, and turn it into something that not only works but inspires.

My family’s story, leaving their home country under duress and without worldly possessions, taught me that things carry meaning. Without heirlooms of my own, I was drawn to giving other people’s sentimental furniture a second life. Upholstery became the perfect intersection of artistry, problem-solving, and sustainability—a way to create beauty while preserving the past.

At Find The Thread, I love transforming other people’s sentimental furniture into bold, colorful statements that bring joy to creative, design-loving people. My purpose is more than just upholstery; it’s about celebrating stories, preserving memories, and helping people fall back in love with their furniture.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

At Find The Thread Upholstery, I specialize in transforming old, sentimental furniture into vibrant, modern pieces that tell a new story. I work with people who want to breathe life into their heirlooms, using bold textiles to give furniture a second chance while honoring its history.

What excites me most about this work is the combination of artistry and technical skill—it’s not just about picking out beautiful fabrics, but about the precision and problem-solving involved in bringing new life to each piece. Every chair, sofa, or ottoman that I reupholster carries its own unique challenges, and the process is a balance between creativity, craftsmanship, and thoughtful design.

What makes my approach special is the attention to detail and the colorful, modern twist I bring to traditional upholstery. I’m passionate about creating pieces that not only look stunning but also feel like an extension of the person or space they belong to. Each project is an opportunity to connect with my clients’ personal stories and transform them into something lasting.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, the three qualities that shaped my journey were adaptability, precision, and creativity.

Shifting from tech to upholstery required me to embrace change and learn quickly. I am open to change and don’t fear failure—it’s part of the growth process.

Upholstery requires careful attention to detail for high-quality results. I am focused on refining my technical skills and don’t rush the process.

Upholstery allows me to express myself through color and pattern, which fuels my passion. I try to nurture my creativity and take risks to develop your own unique style.

For anyone starting out, focus on developing these qualities to stay adaptable, precise, and creatively inspired. It’s a journey, so enjoy the process!

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

A challenge is attracting the right clients – those who truly value my bold, colorful aesthetic and craftsmanship, rather than just any upholsterer. It requires finding ways to stand out in a crowded market while staying true to your creative vision and style.
