Meet Keiarra G.

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Keiarra G. a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi KeIarra, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

Overcoming such obstacles didn’t just come about when I chose to start this line of business or any business for that matter. I was born the only one in the room that looks like me. I’ve lived and progressed through life in schools, neighborhoods and even households around people that didn’t look, talk, act, think or even vision life like me.. lol! Over the years you learn to adapt and shine in every aspect. The art of wanting to succeed at all costs is something special. I feel that is instilled within. I was born with that as well. For me it’s never what I look like. It’s never what I’ve been through, it’s all about where I’m on my way to, where I’m headed. I always give everything my 200%, Either i’m good with it or good at it..
I’m not going to stand before you and pretend to be oblivious to the fact that I may be judged or categorized due to my features. Filled in or traced…. Nah, we’re not going to do that. But that has never stopped me. I mean EVER!! My crafts are undeniable. The passion, knowledge, ambition, time, effort and dedication that I put into my work is all undeniable. Great products, great food, great service never disappoints. I know what goes into my work. I know the measures taken to produce top tier products and services. This is months, even years of research. I know that my work has to be worth more than a life size coloring book character. You see what I did there? You see how confident I am when speaking? My effectiveness and success comes from knowing my worth and being relentless.. Tables turn. I now feel as if the room becomes mine, with people in it… that looks like themselves.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

TEXAS STAND UUUUUP!!!!! I am a Texas raised aspiring Nutritionist, Herbal & Holistic Tech, Chef and Author. Most may recognize me as Chef Honeeii of Speak Eatz and my very first cookbook, “Kook Therapy”. I also install and lead K tips. To my immediate friends and family, I am KeIarra, Honeeii, or my favorite, “Heeeeey Kei, are you cooking?” to them… For years I have had a passion for cooking and taking care of others. I think of it as catering meals and catering to hearts. Cooking for me as a whole just feeds my soul. I can whip up almost anything you can think of. My most prized skills are elegant plating and intimate dinners. However, keep living, life brings about changes. Within those changes birthed my love for nutrition and gardening. I absolutely love everything about them both. The science behind nutrition is everything. The arts behind growing your own food is a different type of intimacy . That’s where “Twisted Ea’den” comes from.

The name, Twisted Ea’den” runs deep, for me but I love it…. “Twisted”, meaning a different way to look at food, health and nutrition. Different as in a positive, kool, relatable light… “Ea’den”, comes from the “Garden of Eden”.. Very fruitful, very majestic, very sacred- if we’re thinking deep. Also symbolizing the knowledge that goes into nutrition alone. I wanted to create something that would bring awareness and value to nutritional health and the benefits behind a healthy body. This also allows me to continue to help others and warm hearts with my cuisines and preps.

What really sets Twisted Ea’den apart from others is a lot of my services are free of charge. Yes, Twisted Ea’den is non-profit. My logic is the more we know about nutrition the better off we are. I am a firm believer of ” Health is Wealth”.. My biggest client base consists of clients that struggle with diabetes, high blood pressure, high risk pregnancies, obesity and anxiety.. It’s most admirable to witness the happiness of my clients when a personal or professional goal of theirs have been met. The reward is even bigger knowing that a life has been impacted for the better. Their whole aspect on life and healthy eating/living changes. They are more likely to share their experience with others and my purpose with that particular client has met.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Outside of being very knowledgeable and confident, I would have to say dedication, adaptability and humility would be the 3 qualities that were most impactful for me on my journey. Dedication- You have to put in the foot work and you have to be humble during the process. You have to stay dedicated to your goals and trust the process. I had to learn to “big step” relentlessly behind myself and my brand. When others see how dedicated and serious you are behind YOU, they tend to follow. Adaptability- Being able to adapt and mature with time is one of the most important qualities ever. You also have to adapt to being a business owner and be able to adapt and separate personal life, from your business life. Adapting also means to learn new tips and tricks. Automatically we think, quality, quantity, and appearance. Marketing what’s hot and keeping up with the latest trends are also important skills or should I say practices. Also, get comfortable with meeting new people. Meet other like minded people. Win the mindset of learning from others. I’ve learned and became comfortable with making business friends of those in the same business category of interest. You can not be a mean girl and be successful. The best advice I can provide is to stay focus, stay true to your goals, do your research and know your worth. You absolutely can not forget to strengthen them customer service skills. Become that extra professional family member to them and you’ll go far!

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

My customers, clients, and people are my biggest inspirations and are the foundation of my efforts. Progression inspires me. Succeeding and witnessing others succeed inspires me. The people and environmental factors around inspire me. Outside of the normal line up of family and friends- my clients and Nutri-Huns have been most helpful in over coming challenges needed to be successful. Oh and my 3 gents, my hero’s my children Tives, TamahJae, & TaKeivan………..All of which help keep me grounded, they keep me 2 steps ahead and allow me to flourish. One thing about loyal clients and dedicated supporters is they will provide real results. A happy client is a forever client. A heard/appreciated supporter is a heavy supporter. They both go hand and hand. They let me know when I’m at my best, they let me know when I am slacking and when to switch things up. Those claps from the stands matter. Needless to say, I always hear the claps, stentoriously.

I would like to pay homage to the following:

Mrs. Ada Henson, Renee Holland, Mrs. Evelyn Roberts, Shaun Roberts My “BrideSquad”, My “Forbidden Babes” & My “Nuti-Huns for your continued support.
Shynemia Polk ,Infinitte Taylor, Deshawndra Hudspeth, Chan Stubberfield, Donte Crawford, Juan Wilborn, Dwight Thomas, Sheryl Lynch, Christopher Thornton, Joshua Majors, James Powell, Ms.Rebecca, Ms. Yolanda, Brandie, Crystal Taylor, Tatiana, China, Ms. Lisa, Verlandria, Brandy, Ieshia Euins, Keisha Fountain, LeDerik, Tamara Robertson, Antonia Shanee and Danielle for the continued love and support you all have given me.
Those individuals have all played major roles in my success. It takes a village, they have been the stones to my foundation.

Jasmine Moore for always being wherever I need her. 12:00AM brainstorm sessions, packaging, events no matter what she’s there for whatever. She’s really a silent partner and don’t know it.

Lastly to my long time and forever friend Akeem for being a firm believer in me and my crafts. I would like to publicly thank him for his grace and strength. Over these last few months he has been my light thru the darkness. When I was ready to throw in the towel, because life was lifing – No matter how big or small the problem is/was, he’s there to motivate and guide me thru the storms. For the times my chaotic mind chooses to soar it’s highest, I can always depend on Akeem to keep my grounded. He’s always there to assist me with tips and pointers when needed. It’s like having my own personal “figure it out-er” and life sized Google or Siri. If Google was a person.. lol!

I am extremely grateful for my supporters, current and futuristic. I am forever in debt.
