Meet William Trostel

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to William Trostel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

William, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

This has been a very hard one for me, and still is. For many years when I had just gotten into photography and videography it was very hard to hear criticism, even if it were constructive. But now I’ve come to realize that there are billions fo people in this world, all with different opinions. You can’t win every battle.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My name is William Trostel and I am a freelance photographer and videographer. I have been taking photos for about 10 years and within the last two have also begun capturing video as well. I recently have begun to get more involved in corporate work (photographing events, creating commercials, adverts, etc.). I have really been enjoying taking on bigger projects and helping small companies grow, along with some bigger ones. I also have two drones which I love to fly. I also utilize them to create client content.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The exposure triangle: this is core for photography. Learn your ISO, aperture, and shutter speeds needs folks!

Be prepared to get turned down a lot: this is a major part of being an interest. Some people like your work, some don’t.

Get friendly with social media: Social media is king for modern day marketing. Love it or hate it, get use to it.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

I love going on walks. I feel like when I get anxious I go outside and feel the sun, breathe some fresh air, and take in the world around me. This may go hand in hand with me being a photogrpaher and observing the things around me.
