Meet Umoja Artego

We were lucky to catch up with Umoja Artego recently and have shared our conversation below.

Umoja, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resiliency comes from fitness and life experiences. Fitness has taught me that consistency and effort lead to progress, even when it’s hard. Life has reinforced that setbacks are just challenges to overcome. I draw strength from my ancestors, my community, and the belief that every struggle builds a stronger, more capable version of myself. Resiliency, for me, is about showing up, pushing through, and never losing sight of the bigger picture.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m Umoja Artego, the founder of “Mo Movements”, a fitness brand that’s about more than just working out—it’s about transforming lives through consistency, resilience, and connection. My journey started with a passion for helping people discover their strength, both physically and mentally, and it’s grown into something bigger than I could’ve imagined.

What makes “Mo Movements” special is its accessibility and personalization. I’ve created an online fitness community—the **Mo Movements Global Fitness Tribe**—that offers three structured training sessions per week, combining HIIT, core work, and progressive exercises. These sessions are designed to fit into anyone’s lifestyle, whether they’re at home or in the gym. And the best part? It’s all part of building a supportive community where people feel empowered to take control of their health.

What excites me most is seeing how fitness changes lives beyond the physical. Watching my clients gain confidence, discipline, and a stronger sense of self is why I do what I do. And I’m constantly evolving—whether it’s through expanding the features on my “Mo Movements app”, offering personalized nutrition and training plans, or launching new programs like my “4-Week Booty Camp Series” and upcoming “6-Week Core Series”.

Right now, I’m focused on making fitness accessible to everyone. That’s why I’m developing tools and content that meet people where they are, both financially and physically. I’m also planning to grow my community with in-person and virtual training options, and I’m working on bringing more value to my clients through workshops and special events.

At the heart of everything is the belief that fitness is for everyone—it’s not about perfection; it’s about progress. If you’re ready to start or elevate your journey, I’m here to help you make every movement count.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are resilience, adaptability, and authenticity.

– Resilience: The ability to push through challenges and setbacks has been critical. Success isn’t about never failing; it’s about getting back up and learning from those moments.

– Adaptability: In fitness and business, things change constantly—clients’ needs, technology, trends. Staying flexible and open to new approaches has kept me growing.

– Authenticity: Staying true to myself and my vision has helped me build trust and connect with my clients. People respect realness, especially when they’re looking for guidance.

For anyone early in their journey, my advice is this:
– Develop resilience by embracing challenges as learning opportunities. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it.
– Stay adaptable by being a lifelong learner. Read, experiment, and don’t be afraid to pivot.
– Most importantly, be authentic. Focus on what makes you unique and let that drive your passion. When you lead with your truth, the right people will always find you.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

Illusions: The Adventures of a reluctant Messiah, by Richard Bach

This book taught me more about having faith and belief in self than any self-help or religious text ever has.
