Meet Emmanuel Qlynton Carboo

We recently connected with Emmanuel Qlynton Carboo and have shared our conversation below.

Emmanuel Qlynton, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

Creativity is the lifeblood of everything I do, from designing unique fashion pieces to inspiring the next generation. For me, staying creative is about embracing curiosity and finding inspiration in both the extraordinary and the everyday. My process is deeply rooted in upcycling and recycling—transforming overlooked fabrics like curtains and blankets into bold, one-of-a-kind garments that tell a story. This approach keeps me connected to the idea that art and fashion are limitless, even in their simplest forms.

Teaching and collaborating with young artists through workshops and programs like wavvz of stitching , career compass , and community collaborations such as CLARKXCOLLAB with Clark University also fuels my creative spark. Guiding others to explore their potential reminds me why I fell in love with fashion in the first place—it’s a space for self-expression, reinvention, and resilience.

Even challenges, like the recent accident that impacted my shop, have shaped my creative journey. I’ve learned to transform setbacks into new opportunities for innovation, from rebuilding damaged displays to reimagining designs for fashion shows. Every moment—good or bad—offers a lesson that I channel into my work.

Whether it’s stitching bold ideas to life or helping others find their voices through design, my creativity thrives on the energy of connection, purpose, and the belief that art can inspire change. Staying curious, adaptable, and committed to my craft is how I ensure my creativity never fades.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My journey in fashion began with a simple yet profound mission: to make fashion accessible and sustainable. This vision led to the creation of two distinct yet complementary entities: Wavvz Newage and Wavvzconcepts. Each represents a unique aspect of my passion for innovation, creativity, and eco-friendly practices.

Wavvz Newage was my first foray into the fashion world. I started by teaching myself to sew, using affordable fabrics like curtains and blankets to create upcycled and recycled garments. This brand quickly became known for its unique streetwear pieces, appealing to a diverse audience that values originality and sustainability. With Wavvz Newage, I aimed to educate the next generation with fashion through music and visual art, challenging conventional fashion norms and promoting the idea that high-quality fashion can be both affordable and environmentally conscious.

As Wavvz Newage grew, so did my aspirations. I envisioned a broader platform that could support multiple brands and foster creativity in the community. This led to the establishment of Wavvzconcepts, a concept shop that houses several brands, each with its distinct identity and story.

Under the Wavvzconcepts umbrella, I launched Stitch Monkeys, a brand with the playful and thought-provoking slogan, “See No Evil, Speak No Evil, Hear No Evil.” NoirCanvas followed, celebrating the beauty of melanin with its empowering message, “Embrace Melanin.” GOT 5 ON IT brought a laid-back yet stylish vibe, perfect for casual fashion, while OUTTA BOX encouraged unconventional and innovative designs. Soon, we will introduce C2C (Clowned to Crowned), reflecting my journey from being underestimated in the fashion industry to becoming a celebrated figure.

Despite their differences, both Wavvz Newage and Wavvzconcepts share a common goal: to push the boundaries of fashion while promoting sustainability and creativity. Wavvz Newage focuses on creating unique, upcycled streetwear pieces, while Wavvzconcepts provides a broader platform for multiple brands, each contributing to our mission in its own way.

In 2024, I decided to unify these brands under the Wavvzconcepts shop, giving them clear meaning, style, color coding, and more. This not only streamlined our offerings but also made it easier for customers to start their own brands with us, leveraging our expertise and resources.

Additionally, Wavvz Newage hosts workshops and educational programs, such as the Wavvz of Stitching, Wavvz Sneaker Customization workshop, and styling classes. These model workshops aim to foster creativity and skill development in the community. Our commitment to upcycling and recycling continues to drive our designs, ensuring that sustainability remains at the heart of our mission.

Through Wavvz Newage and Wavvzconcepts, I’ve created platforms where innovation, sustainability, and the power of creativity thrive. This journey from a single sewing project to a multi-brand concept shop has been both challenging and rewarding, and I am excited to see what the future holds for both entities and our community.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Adaptability and Resilience
In the ever-changing world of fashion and design, the ability to adapt is essential. Whether I’m upcycling unconventional materials into runway-ready pieces or recovering from challenges like rebuilding my shop after an accident, adaptability allows me to embrace new opportunities and keep pushing forward. Resilience fuels my passion to innovate, even in the face of obstacles, ensuring I remain inspired and focused on creating meaningful work.
2. Creative Vision and Innovation
A strong creative vision is the foundation of my work. From designing one-of-a-kind garments to developing entire brand concepts like Wavvz Newage and NoirCanvas, I use innovation to bring ideas to life. Understanding how to balance aesthetics, functionality, and storytelling is a key skill I’ve honed over time. This allows me to craft pieces and experiences that resonate deeply with clients and audiences alike.
3. Mentorship and Community Engagement
Sharing knowledge and empowering others is at the heart of my work. Whether I’m hosting sewing workshops, collaborating with young artists, or leading programs like the Friendly House workshop, I recognize the importance of mentorship. Guiding the next generation of creatives not only strengthens my community but also sharpens my own understanding of the craft, ensuring the cycle of creativity continues to thrive.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Collaborating for Creative Impact
By Emmanuel Carboo

Collaboration is at the heart of everything I do, and I’m always looking to partner with individuals and organizations that share a passion for creativity, innovation, and community building. I would love to collaborate with brands like Nike, Reebok, Converse, and New Balance, especially given their rich histories and presence in Boston. As someone who values storytelling through design, I believe we could create unique projects that merge global influence with local authenticity.

I’m also eager to connect with influential figures like Joyner Lucas, a fellow Worcester native, and Celtics basketball players. These collaborations could celebrate our city’s talent while pushing creative boundaries. Additionally, I’m passionate about working with colleges, high schools, and upcoming artists to inspire and nurture the next generation of creators. Partnering with organizations and nonprofits to bring impactful community-based programs to life is another key area of focus.
