Meet Phillip Williams-ford

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Phillip Williams-ford a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Phillip, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My work ethic is something I built through seeing people around me not have any. I chose to become a helpful and driven person so I can become somebody and develop relationships with the right support. I strive to be successful so in order to do so I must do more than I don’t.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am an ex international football player wanting to make a difference in multiple fields. Any skills I am the middle child of 7 and wanted to follow my dream in playing ball and creating a business to help grow. I have felt with unemployment, homelessness, and mental health struggles for a number of years but could not lay down and stop my dream. My business “Prime Example” was launched in 2021 and I have been non stop trying to grow networking opportunities and donors to create a safe haven in San Diego for small business owners and individuals that have fitness /athletic goals. My services offer photography/Videoagraphy, co opt space, and fitness needs. I picked up many skills in school when I was trying to find myself but one isn’t enough for a person of my ethnicity.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Being a full athlete most of my life definitely sparks as one of my biggest achievements. Being able to compete in different countries shows that I am a competitor all around.

Also in leadership roles in my place of employment at a non profit organization to empower equality and support for minorities.

Other than that I have also had an eye for capturing moments with a camera. Taking multimedia classes in high school and just always into technology made me become self taught in making videos and photos at events and fitness.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

As an african american entrepreneur living in one of the most expensive cities funding has been the number 1 challenge. I am saving as much as I can monthly but wanting to find donors that believe in my cause. It’s very hard to get support in this town being a black male. It’s very discouraging unfortunately but I have no quit in me to just give up.
