We were lucky to catch up with Pamela Wangenheim-hawkins recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Pamela, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
I meditate every day. I lay on a Bemer blanket (for horses) while I meditate. This is nourishing for the mind, body and soul.
I have learned to allow and how to manifest from the practice of meditation. Learning to quiet the mind is the most beneficial practice I have experienced..
I am starting a meditation program at the ranch so others can experience this too.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I have been training horses professionally for 35 years. I started riding horses when I was seven years old. I started my business at the age of nineteen in 1989 with the assistance of my father, Herbert William Wangenheim and the love of my mother Patricia Wangenheim. We named the business Majestic Equestrians. Through many trials and tribulations, the business is still going stronger than ever.
In 2015 I wrote a book “Connecting With God”. The book takes you through my life experiences and much of my philosophy on working with horses, dogs, people and a few other critters. Today I lease and manage a 156 acre horse ranch in Thousand Oaks, Ca. We offer Boarding and training. I have 3 other trainers besides myself offering their training services.
I also am an artist. I sell my artworks online, at art shows and through word of mouth. I do fantasy style, realism, abstract and surrealism. I have been doing art since I was around four yeas old. In recent yaers I have been creating pet portraits on an onament.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Don’t look back. Keep heading in the direction of your dream no matter how rough it gets. “Tough times don’t last, tough people do”. Robert Schueller
Know that God, The Univers, Buddah, Alla, Source or whatever you do or don’t believe in, you must line up your vibration with your dream. Meditate everyday.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
I would love to own the property that I lease. Financially it has remained out of reach. I have taken care of my Mom since my father passed away and my husband has battled three cancers, including Leukemia that he still is contending with. This has put me in a precarious position financially to say the least. I also have too much compassion for the animals in so many situations over the last 35 years. I won’t leave any animal abandoned to suffer, therefore it has cost me my own financial security for my future. This is no ones fault but my own. I have always wanted to start a sanctuary for abandoned and abused animals. I would have no problem running such an operation, but the funds to start such an organization, seems out of reach at this time. I don’t have a retirement at the age of 55 because of having to move house and business multiple times over the years. At one point I did lose everything. This did not stop me from continuing on with my vision. I am in a better situation now, but once again the property belongs to someone who is very money hungry. I pay such a large rent that it still leaves me living month to month and working 12 hours a day and still supporting my family. I am very blessed to be able to do what I do and to be able to provide for my loved ones. Basically, it is security for my future that I want so I can continue to support my family and to be able to rescue unfortunate beings. At some point I have thought having unfortunate children and adults be able to work with and care for the animals so that I would be helping them as well. It is a win win for everyone. It will happen.
