Meet Matilda Corley Schulman

We recently connected with Matilda Corley Schulman and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Matilda, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

This may sound a little more morose than intended but, there was a point where I didn’t have a choice in being resilient. Where I either had to keep moving, or stop altogether. And I think we all have our versions of that moment, that one point in time where you have to choose how you are going to go about life. I also had a wonderful family to back me in that moment.

So now, whenever I think about maybe stopping or slowing down in some way (not in the healthy we all need a break way), I remember that younger version of me that needed to see stories where young women survive, where young women get to live and love and be the biggest versions of themselves they can possibly be.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

As a recovering student athlete (Equestrian) (yes, she I am a horse girl), and now a writer/actor based in Los Angeles, I find myself sharing stories filled with a little bit of magic and a whole lot of heartbreak. Also, I hope to give voice to women who have maybe been told to quiet down one too many times — and maybe in the process, makes us all feel a bit less alone.

The most exciting thing I get to do is see firsthand how my stories affect those around me.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Learn — I think at the top of the list I would definitely say, never stop learning — no matter how high up or far you get, or think you are getting never, ever stop learning and be hungry to learn. From everyone.

Be kind — people may not remember your name at first, but they will forever remember how you made them feel.

Be ready — you never know when something will or won’t happen, so be kind to yourself in allowing yourself to be ready. But it applies to everything you are about to do…

P.S. Ten minutes early is on time, and on time is late ( a great coach of mine said that to me when I was ten… and let me tell you, it’s stuck)

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

The hard part about my job is it can be extremely isolating, yet at the same time you need others to accomplish it. So, as a writer and actor (and overall storyteller), I am always looking for those to collaborate with — the best way to see my writing is on my Coverfly profile (Matilda Corely Schulman) or to reach out to me through socials (instagram, @matildacorleyschulman).
