Meet Gabriel Vaquedano

We recently connected with Gabriel Vaquedano and have shared our conversation below.

Gabriel, we are so appreciative of you taking the time to open up about the extremely important, albeit personal, topic of mental health. Can you talk to us about your journey and how you were able to overcome the challenges related to mental issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.

There are many ways to cope with mental health issues such as physical activities, therapies, and meds if needed. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety when I was 22 years old. For sure I felt depressed several times before that. However, It took me 7 years of work to find my right path, I faced many times manic-depression episodes in an attempt to fit into a better life due to my mental illness. Period, my determination to achieve that change for my mental health made me build a strong resilience.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I recently launched a new project called the Pura Kazaka Podcast & Management. It combines a LATAM podcast with managing businesses’ social media feeds. Pura Kazaka is a Honduran slang, in my country, which might mean “loquacious or garrulous,” depending on the context.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I always knew my innate skills and competencies and that is a job you have to find out. However, I never was told how to learn to be patient on projects and consistent until achieve every goal in mind, it is a long-term game. Don’t expect quick returns. Period, be advised that your journey might be creative or sport, professional or freelance, or any type of field, nothing is written to make what you love to do the most.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

Hidden Figures a well-known book of black women with great mathematical abilities helped me understand my country’s mindset on diversity. I was socially targeted and mentally tortured for my sexual orientation my entire life wherever I’d go. I faced homophobia in school, at work, and by religious people, and I had to leave places due to several dangerous situations people provoked me no matter how successful I was.
