We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Emily Hahn And Josie Smith. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Emily Hahn and Josie Smith below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Emily Hahn and Josie Smith with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Having met in 2022, Josie and I discovered one very important common ground immediately. Hardwork. Both being hired as new comers, in the same company, we leaned on each other and quickly discovered we are each others yin to the others yang. Our strengths combined made us invaluable to our team and the business. Once working together for a year, we decided we had a strong desire to continue this bond and start our own private chef and catering business.
As a young percocious kid, Chef Emily’s Christmas wish list to her grandmother consisted of office supplies, and quickly earned herself the title “The General” in her mom’s office building.
When Josie was growing up, she used to create menus, take her grandparents orders, and make delicious Play-Doh entrees! There was something stirring up young for her, and she always enjoyed putting her head down and getting to work, whether it be real food or Play-Doh.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Josie Goode and Emily Hahn are the yin to one another’s yang and recognized instantly that they would not only be great friends, but each offer the better half of a successful business partner.
Former Bravo Top Chef Contestant, and Food Network’s Chopped Competitor, Chef Emily Hahn has over 20 years of professional culinary experience. A restaurant industry veteran, former commercial shrimper, and certified Boat Captain, Chef Emily has helmed kitchens across the Lowcountry of South Carolina, building special connections with farmers, fisherman, and other local purveyors to create clean, bright, imaginative menus driven by local ingredients. Her broad culinary range using simple ingredients elevated with hints of global flavor makes her food and style unique.
Josie brings her knowledge of food & beverage from her years of experience in restaurants, behind the bar, and behind the computer as Head of Operations & Owner.
Working together to create the perfect balance, these two are devoted to the pursuit of great food and customer experiences. When Josie and Emily aren’t working, their time is spent outdoors with their four-legged family members Trigger, Badger, and Yadi.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Consistency is key! Persistence; becoming a version of the used car salesman you never thought you’d become. Honesty. There is nothing more valuable to us than being honest and forth coming. This creates a true connection and loyalty.
If you can make these three characteristics the main part of your journey in entrepreneurship, you will create something you are proud of every time.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When we feel overwhelmed individually, we lean on each other! We compliment each others strengths and weaknesses.
Much the same as a personal lifelong partnership, there are times when we won’t agree, but excellent communication and even being overly communicative and honest, is where we shine. We have made a commitment to each other to make our businesses successful. We know it will take hard work, time, and patience. We simply keep moving forward and push each other to be great.
