We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Codi Stonehouse. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Codi below.
Hi Codi , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My parents instilled a strong work ethic for my siblings and I at a very young age, especially my dad. He was a talented carpenter and plumber, he often worked side jobs on the weekend and would bring us along to work and earn some extra cash! My parents would also help get me to and from babysitting jobs so I could save up and buy my first car, a 1999 Ford Explorer I named Dora! She was an absolute wreck that was held together with duct tape and a prayer, but she was all mine! They taught us that hard, honest work pays off and to always go the extra mile, and I’m so thankful they did.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I honestly have one of the coolest jobs ever, I get to work with some incredible couples and the most talented vendors to create one of a kind weddings and elopements for the wildly in love. Each love story is one-of-a-kind, and I believe you’re wedding or elopement should be a reflection of that! I’m all about breaking the mold and embracing the extraordinary. If a tradition doesn’t resonate with your love story, I’m more than excited to explore new avenues! Your love story is ready to be told – authentically, beautifully, and uniquely. The greatest adventure awaits, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it!
I have big plans in the works for Sage + Stone, but for now I’ll start with growing my awesome team. I’d be lost without my girls Bailey and Kaitlin, and I can’t wait to see them grow with the business!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three things I think have been the most impactful on my journey are resourcefulness, team mentality and faith. Being in the events industry, especially as the wedding planner and coordinator – you are the one person people look to when things go south and they need an answer. Thankfully I grew up in a very handy and “I can fix it/make that” family which has carried over to my career. I’ve had to sew brides into their dress because the zipper broke, move ceremony locations entirely within hours due to unexpected weather, fix broken arches for the ceremony and more! As the planner, you need to be calm yet quick on your feet. I also believe relying heavily on the team has brought me to where I am today. I believe ALL vendors – no matter what role, play an intricate part in making the wedding day successful. Without the venue staff, floral team, catering team, you name it – the wedding would be an absolute nightmare. Each person brings so much value to the table and they should be treated with the respect and kindness they deserve, I truly wouldn’t have a successful wedding day without each of these talented individuals. The third, and most important piece of the puzzle is faith. Making the decision to leave my steady paying 8-5 was absolutely terrifying. I was so worried, what if I’m making a mistake? What if I completely fail and we cant pay our bills? The worried thoughts were endless, but with the full support of my husband and Faith in God that He would provide – here we are! I’ve been full time since September and while I still have plenty of learning and growing to do, leaving that job was the best decision I could have made for my family!
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
Gosh, I feel like there are so many! But right now I think it’s trying to find the balance in life. First and foremost I’m a mom and wife and my family will always be my number one. However it can be so tough, especially during the busy season to fit in all those roles of mom, wife, business owner all while trying to live a healthy active lifestyle, cook, maintain the house and more! Sometimes I feel like there are not enough hours in the day! Thankfully I have the most loving and supportive husband and we tackle all life obstacles together.
